A consi is the consolation race that gives drivers who missed transferring out of their heat one more shot at making the feature, with only the top few finishers advancing to the back of the field.
The name changes with the ZIP code. Northeast modified racers say consi; IMCA’s rulebook says “B” feature; World of Outlaws and DIRTcar call it the Last Chance Showdown; USAC runs a Semi-Feature; drag and some asphalt programs say LCQ. Same job every time. Transfer spots are thin and tied to car count — World of Outlaws sends the top four to six sprint car finishers to the back of the feature, and USAC slots semi-feature transfers into positions 19-24 with their qualifying time thrown out. Lineups are usually straight up off heat finish; IMCA states plainly that “B” mains run highest finishers to front. Winning a consi still starts you at the back, so protect the car.
Making the show through the consi means you start the feature from the back on tires and equipment you have already used harder than the cars in front of you.
