Tech inspection is the official check that a race car is safe to run and legal for its class — safety gear, weight, tires, engine and bodywork — done before racing, after the feature, or both.
It ranges from an eyeball at the gate to a full teardown on the top finishers, and the rulebook gives officials broad authority. IMCA’s general procedures state that IMCA and the promoter “reserve the right to inspect race car at any time” and that it is “the responsibility of the driver and crew to disassemble race car for inspection when requested,” with refusal drawing disqualification and forfeiture of money and points. Rules tech is where the numbers bite: DIRTcar’s Late Model division sets a 2,350 lb minimum with driver, makes the event scale the official one, allows up to two re-weighs, and lets officials confiscate any tire deemed suspicious.
