RaceNight User Guide

RaceNight is the AI-powered racing setup app that remembers every setup, every change, every track, every night, and logs it all with zero internet required. This guide covers what each part of the app does, what each plan includes, and where to go when you get stuck.

Getting started

Your memory is terrible. RaceNight's is perfect. Stop arguing about what gear you ran at this track three years ago. RaceNight keeps every sheet you have ever logged, finds it in seconds, and puts an AI crew chief in your pocket that knows your car's actual history.

Install and sign in

RaceNight is on iOS and Android. Download it on the App Store or Google Play. You can sign in with Apple or Google. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and you can cancel anytime. See Plans and pricing for what each plan includes.

The app walks you through the basics with a short coach-mark tutorial. Your cars and setups live on a setups page with a bottom navigation bar, and a quick-access AI button gets you to the crew chief from wherever you are.

Your first race night in three steps

Template it, log it, find speed. That is the whole loop.

  1. Template it. Pick the template built for your class and make it yours. Every field can be added, removed, or renamed. If your class is not listed, use the flexible "Other" template or request one. See Class Templates.
  2. Log it. Capture tonight's setup trackside with no signal required. Track conditions, chassis specs, drivetrain, scales, shocks, tires, and lap times all live on the sheet, and everything syncs once you are back on signal. See Setup sheets.
  3. Find speed. Ask your AI crew chief what to change before the next heat. This step needs a connection. Its guidance is grounded in your own setup history and how those setups finished, so the more nights you log, the sharper it gets. See AI Crew Chief.
Tip. Keep your gloves on. Tap the microphone on your phone's keyboard to dictate your notes like you are talking to a crew chief, then save the sheet without typing it all out.

Setup sheets

The setup sheet is the heart of RaceNight. Capture every detail on one sheet: track conditions, chassis specs, drivetrain, gears, scales, shocks, springs, tires, and lap times. Log it fast, log it with zero bars, and it is there next time you roll into that track.

What a sheet holds

Each sheet starts from your class template, so the fields already match your car. Templates cover the geometry and measurements for your class, from karts to super late models, and the template handles the math on complex adjustments like cross weight, stagger, and fuel.

  • Quick-pick buttons. Save time by tapping buttons instead of typing.
  • Remembered values. Type a custom gear, track, or setup value once and the app has it ready for next time.
  • Hide what you don't change. Only see what you actually tune. Hide the fields you leave alone week to week, and the data stays saved.
  • Full View. See a bird's-eye view of every field on one page. Full View can also mark which values changed from your last session, so you can spot the differences at a glance.
  • Photos. Attach photos to any sheet and tap any inline photo to zoom in. Image upload is a RaceNight Pro feature.
  • Spring smash data. Save your spring smash numbers right on the setup sheet.
  • Dark Mode. Low-light viewing for the pits.

Baselines

A baseline is a proven setup you save as a starting point. Save your absolute best setups as baselines so creating a new sheet for the same track or conditions is quick instead of a blank page. You can rename a baseline or clone it into a new one right from the builder, and baselines update automatically to the latest version of your template when we improve it, so you never lose fields or fall behind.

Baselines are included on both RaceNight AI and RaceNight Pro.

Finding an old setup

Search or filter your history by car, track, date, condition, rating, and more. Search by a specific component, like a particular right-front spring or left-front shock, to see every time you have bolted it on the car and how it performed. Search works offline.

Change log and pick lists (Pro)

RaceNight Pro adds a change log and customizable pick lists on top of the standard sheet. Pick lists are the button menus you tap instead of typing, so you can build them around the parts and values your team actually runs.

Digital Binder

Your entire racing history in one spot. Every car, every track, in a digital vault that fits in your pocket. The Digital Binder is where the sheets, sessions, and notes you would normally keep in a three-ring binder in the trailer live in the app.

  • Unlimited setups and sessions. Log every run and every adjustment without running out of pages, on either plan.
  • Searchable history. Find what you need by searching or filtering by car, track, date, rating, and more.
  • Reuse what worked. Save a setup as a baseline and clone it as your starting point for the next sheet. See Baselines.
  • Manuals, rules, and notes. Keep manufacturer manuals, class rules, and the notes from your shock guy in the app. It is a digital notebook for all the secrets you usually lose in the trailer, and it is with you for quick reference in the pits.

Setup information stays saved even if you delete a car, so a cleanup in the garage does not wipe out a season of history.

AI Crew Chief

It is like having a crew chief who doesn't drink your beer, doesn't argue with you, and remembers everything. The AI Crew Chief takes your car's actual setup and combines it with your driver's feedback to give you setup guidance built for your car, not generic advice. The more nights you log, the sharper the guidance gets.

Needs a connection. Logging, searching, and saving work offline. Asking the AI Crew Chief does not. Log at the track, then ask when you have signal.

Ask the AI Crew Chief

Ask anything about your setup, what to adjust as conditions change, what a component does, or how a change would affect your current setup. You can also ask it to compare previous setups. The quick-access AI button takes you straight to the chat, and you can rate any answer up or down so the guidance keeps improving.

AI tools

  • Setup Handling Coach. Stuck on a handling issue? The coach analyzes your current setup and driver feedback and finds adjustments for extra speed.
  • Tire Pyrometer Analyzer. Plug in your temps and the AI tells you if you are leaning on the tires too hard or your camber is out of whack. It works on camber, wear, and PSI.
  • RPM Gear Selector. Stop guessing on the rear-end gear. Input your data and the AI gives you the right ratio for your target RPM.
  • Lap time analyzer. AI analysis of your lap times. You can upload a screenshot of your MyRacePass or MyLaps lap times with Snap & Fill.
  • WhatIf Simulation. A separate AI category that simulates how your car responds before you change anything.
  • AI Analyzer. Run an AI-powered analysis on any setup in your history.
  • Post-race session analysis (Pro). RaceNight Pro adds AI analysis of a race session after the night.

Daily questions

Each plan includes a daily question allowance for the AI Crew Chief: 12 questions a day on RaceNight AI and 24 a day on RaceNight Pro. The Setup Handling Coach, Tire Pyrometer Analyzer, Lap time analyzer, and WhatIf Simulation are on both plans. Snap & Fill and post-race session analysis are Pro.

Snap & Fill (Pro)

Snap & Fill is live in RaceNight Pro. Take a picture of your paper setup sheets, your digital scale pad, or your tire pyrometer, and the AI fills in the setup for you. It also reads screenshots of your MyRacePass or MyLaps lap times.

You can cancel before the values are filled in, clear a field the AI got wrong, and add a Snap & Fill value to a list so it is there for next time.

Free printable sheets. The Downloads page has Spring Smash setup sheets for Limited Sportsman, Sportsman, and NE Modified. They are designed for Snap & Fill: fill one in by hand at the track, then snap it.

Class Templates

Start from a pre-built template designed to track everything about your car's geometry and measurements, then make it yours. Every field can be added, removed, or renamed to match how your team actually works.

Which classes are covered

RaceNight ships templates for Open Wheel Modified, Northeast Dirt Modified, Asphalt and Super Late Model, Dirt Late Model, Street Stock, Pro Stock, Sprint Car, Mini Sprint, Karting, Legend and Bandolero, 3 and 4 Cylinder, and more. Chassis-specific templates include what the manufacturer recommends. If your class is not there, the flexible "Other" template and a Universal Car template cover anything else.

Templates carry built-in calculators, so the sheet handles the math on adjustments like cross weight, stagger, and fuel. Hide what you don't use and keep your sheets clean.

Automatic template upgrades

When we add new fields and features, your templates update automatically, and your baselines move to the latest template version with them. RaceNight keeps version control on both templates and baselines and tells you in the app when a template has been updated.

Request a class or a template change

Don't see your class? You can request it without leaving the app, or use the Template Feedback form on the website. The same form covers template requests, missing race classes, template improvements, and bugs. Have a paper setup sheet? Email it to templates@racenight.app and we will build the template from it.

To find the name of the template you are on, open a setup and tap the three dots.

Pit Tools

Trackside essentials for when things get hectic: big buttons and simple layouts for greasy hands. Pit Tools are included on both plans.

  • Dynamic Sprocket Selector. Pick your front and rear sprocket for chain-driven cars on an interactive chart, and see exactly what each swap is worth before you make it.
  • Quick-change rear end chart. Select your 6-spline or 10-spline quick-change gears on an interactive chart. Mark the ones you own, then work out what fits best before you change anything.
  • Gear ratio calculator. Quick math for the right combination at any track length.
  • Stagger calculator. Your actual stagger against your plan, calculated automatically.
  • Weight distribution calculator. Included on both plans.
  • Tire temperature calculator. Included on both plans. For the AI read on what your temps mean, see the Tire Pyrometer Analyzer.
  • Gear charts and gear inventory. A digital gear chart plus a list of every gear set you own, so filling in setups gets even easier.
  • Cheat sheets and handling notes. Keep your quick-reference notes with you in the pits. See Digital Binder.

Race Recap

Turning laps into lessons. The race doesn't end when the checkers fly. It ends when you have recorded the why behind the result. Race Recap is where you look back at what actually worked and find repeatable speed.

  • Driver feedback. Capture the driver's thoughts through the corners and down the straights.
  • Setup change notes. Write down what you adjusted each session.
  • Handling and feel notes. How the car performed, and what got better or worse after each change.
  • "Next time" notes. Remind yourself what to try next week.

Race recap notes and driver feedback are RaceNight Pro features. They also feed the AI Crew Chief, which uses your driver feedback alongside the setup itself when it recommends changes.

Community Setups and sharing

Since v1.12.22 you can share your setup sheets with other racers. Share a setup publicly, or privately with a share code so only the people you give the code to can see it. Sharing your setups with your own race team inside the app is on the way (Coming Soon).

Your crew already works together today on maintenance, inspections, tasks, and shopping lists through the included RacePrep. See Inventory, Maintenance, and Team Management.

Offline, backup, and security

Your setup is your competitive advantage, and we treat it that way.

Works offline

No connection? No problem. We know the best tracks are usually in a cornfield with zero cell service. Log, search, and save setups without a single bar of signal. Your data is saved on your phone for speed and offline reliability, and it syncs when you are back on signal. The app shows clear alerts about trackside connectivity so you know where you stand. Asking the AI Crew Chief still needs a connection.

Cloud backup

Drop your phone in a drain pan? Leave it on the roof of the truck? We save your backups to the cloud, so even if your phone is toast, your setup history lives on. Break your phone or upgrade it and sign back in to pick up where you left off.

Security

Sensitive data is encrypted in secure, access-controlled systems. Your sheets are private unless you choose to share them (see Community Setups and sharing).

Inventory, Maintenance, and Team Management

Winning starts with prep in the garage. Maintenance, inspections, and team tools ride along with RaceNight Pro through the RacePrep app, which is included with your Pro subscription. This section says what lives where. The full documentation is in the RacePrep User Guide.

Inventory

Manage the hardware so you are never caught off guard. In RaceNight, keep a digital gear chart and list of every gear set you own, and save your spring smash numbers right on your setup sheet. Gear inventory is on both plans. Parts and supplies inventory lives in RacePrep and comes with RaceNight Pro.

Maintenance

Know your car is race-ready before the trailer door even opens. Through the included RacePrep you get a part usage counter that tracks laps on motors, shocks, and chassis so you can service them before they fail, a customizable maintenance to-do list for each car, a weekly inspection list, a shared team shopping list, and a parts and supplies library with reordering info and direct links to buy. For the best experience with these tools, open them in RacePrep.

Team Management

One car or the whole stable. RaceNight handles setups for one race car or many on both plans. Your crew runs maintenance together through the included RacePrep today: invite your whole crew and share the maintenance lists. Setup-team invites, so your crew can see and work on RaceNight setups, are on the way (Coming Soon).

One subscription, two apps. RaceNight Pro includes RacePrep, and buying RacePrep grants RaceNight Pro.
