Getting Started

Welcome to RaceNight

Where in the app: Setups tab, the first screen after you sign in

RaceNight is a digital setup logbook, pit calculation suite, and AI crew chief for your race car, built around the class templates RaceYear supplies.

Capability Tier Key

• [Core / Included]: Core capabilities available to all registered users, during onboarding, and within the initial trial period.
• [RaceNight Pro]: Feature-gated capability requiring an active RaceNight Pro subscription (or active 14-day free trial).
• [RaceNight AI]: Specialized generative and vision AI features powered by the RaceNight Crew Chief AI engine.

What the app does

• Setup Sheets [Core / Included]: Keeps a digital setup sheet for every night at the track.
• Official Class Templates [RaceNight Pro]: Builds each sheet from an official class template supplied by RaceYear, so the fields and geometry match your exact division.
• Local Storage & Offline First [Core / Included]: Stores your sheets on the device using a local database. Templates and your account sync from the server, but all numbers you record live on the phone and work with zero signal.
• Integrated RacePrep Maintenance [Core / Included] & [RaceNight Pro]: Directly incorporates the RacePrep maintenance engine into the app shell to track part lifecycles, shop to-dos, bolt-check inspections, and inventory.

What a setup sheet holds

The template decides the categories on the sheet, the panels inside them and the fields you fill in. The Universal NE Dirt Modified template carries nine: General, What If?, Recap, Gears, Chassis, Scale, Shocks, Tires and Lap Times. Inside them sit the things you actually measure, such as ride height and corner weights under Scale, coilover and spring smash data for each corner under Shocks, and stagger and tire temperatures under Tires.

Every sheet carries four sessions, usually Baseline, Practice, Qualifier and Feature, or Baseline, Round 1, Round 2 and Main. What you type is stored against the session you have picked, so one sheet shows how the car changed across the night with automatic visual change deltas.

Dark theme [Core / Included]

The app follows your phone's light or dark setting at first. To change it, open the menu, tap your name, then use the Dark Mode switch under App Theme.

It works with no signal [Core / Included]

When the app cannot reach the server it shows a panel titled "You're in Offline Mode", listing what still works: "Create and edit setups", "Search setup history" and "Save changes". Waiting on a signal are "AI capabilities", "Manage cars and tracks" and "Template updates". Tap I understand to carry on.

What a plan unlocks [RaceNight Pro]

One active RaceNight Pro subscription unlocks the whole app: official division templates, golden baselines, cloud backup sync, spring smash tables, community marketplace, and maintenance tracking.

Create an account and sign in

Where in the app: App start → Get Started with RaceNight

This screen is where you make a RaceNight account or sign back into one you already have.

Choose how to sign in [Core / Included]

Buttons in order: Sign in with RacePrep (speed up registration using your existing RacePrep account), Sign in with Google, Sign in with Apple (Apple devices only, iPhone, iPad, and macOS), Sign in with email, an OR divider, then Register with Email. Terms of Service and Privacy Policy below them open in your browser.

Register with email [Core / Included]

1. Tap Register with Email.
2. Fill in Email. A bad address gives "Please enter a valid Email address".
3. Fill in Password. Under 6 characters gives "Minimum password length is 6", empty gives "Please Enter Password".
4. Invite code is optional: "Enter your invite code or leave it blank."
5. Tick "I have read and agree to the Terms and Conditions", or you get "You need to accept the terms".
6. Tap Create Account.

There is no name box and no confirm-password box. Your display name starts as the part of your email before the @ and can be changed on step 1 of the setup wizard. If the account already exists you get a Registration failed panel with a Login with email button, which clears the boxes and switches to the sign-in form.

Sign in with email [Core / Included]

Sign in with email and Sign in with RacePrep open the same form and send the same details. Enter E-mail and Password, then tap Login. The eye icon shows the password, a wrong address or password brings up a Login failed panel with an OK button, and Other login methods goes back to the button list. Nothing spins while the app is checking, so give it a moment instead of tapping Login again.

Google and Apple [Core / Included]

Tap the button and pick your account in the panel your phone puts up. Backing out returns you to the button list with no message, which is normal. Failures show a Google Sign In failed, Google Sign In Error, Apple Sign In failed or Apple Sign In Error panel with an OK button. On a device that cannot do Apple sign-in, a Not Available panel reads "Sign in with Apple is not available on this device."

Forgot your password [Core / Included]

Tap Forgot Password? on the sign-in form, type your account address, then tap Request password reset. A "Password reset has been sent" panel appears and you land back on the button list, where Sign in with email brings the form back. Finish the reset from the email you get.

The Early Access screen [Core / Included]

While RaceYear has early access switched on, a screen headed "Welcome to Early Access!" appears straight after signing in, giving everyone "FULL ACCESS" to all Pro features free while the app is finished. It links to the feature roadmap and has one button, Start using RaceNight. It shows after every fresh sign-in while that setting is on, never on a normal restart.

Where you land

The Early Access screen if it is on, then the setup wizard if you have not been through it, then the Setups tab.

Set up your car and class the first time

Where in the app: After your first sign-in → Tell me about yourself

A six step wizard that collects your profile, cars, templates, tracks and notes.

Each step has Next at the bottom right and, from step 2 on, Back at the bottom left. A small X sits top right on every step. You cannot swipe between steps, and the counter on step 1 reads "Step 1 of 7" even though there are six.

Step 1, Tell me about yourself [Core / Included]

Tap the circle or Upload profile photo to pick a picture from your gallery. What's your email comes from your account and cannot be edited. What should we call you is required, and leaving it empty gives "Please enter your name". What's your phone number and Enter promo or invite code are optional. Next saves your profile to the server, so this step needs a signal.

Step 2, Add your cars [Core / Included] & [RaceNight AI]

1. Tap Add a new car.
2. Fill in Name your car\*.
3. Tap Select race class\*, search the list, then tap a class to pick it. Request a Race Class opens the RaceYear request page.
4. Chassis manufacturer and Additional context [RaceNight AI] are optional. The context box feeds the AI features, so year, engine, shock package, and chassis details help the AI Crew Chief give tailored recommendations.
5. Add car photo (optional) offers camera or gallery.
6. Tap Save, or Cancel to throw the car away.

The pencil icon reopens the sheet as Edit car. The bin icon opens a Delete Car panel reading "Are you sure you want to delete ...?" and "This action cannot be undone.", with Cancel and Delete.

Step 3, Download Templates [RaceNight Pro]

Templates are grouped under the race class of each car you added, and a bar across the top shows the download still running. Tap a name to preview it, read only, with a "TEMPLATE PREVIEW" banner and nothing kept. Flip the toggle to make a template available when you create a sheet. Preview-only templates put up a "Sneak Peak" panel and cannot be switched on. Request a Template under the list opens the RaceYear request page. If nothing has downloaded the page reads "No templates available" and "Please check your internet connection and try again".

Step 4, Find your tracks [Core / Included]

Tap Search for your racetracks... and type a track name, or tap the location icon for a nearby search. Tap a result to add it, which opens Add Track to check the details, and Add Track Manually opens the same sheet empty. Track Name\* is required, and Track Address and Track Size are optional. Track Size is a wheel of fixed values from 1/10 to 2.66, shown in Miles, starting at 1/4. Tap Done, then Save, or Cancel to throw the track away. The bin icon on a track deletes it immediately with no confirmation.

Step 5, Add Best Practices & Notes [Core / Included]

The wizard creates one My Notes sheet for your own tips and shows its first category here. Fields save when you tap out of them, and a camera button appears on the categories that hold photos.

Step 6, Congrats! [Core / Included]

One button, reading Start my {N} day free trial when RaceYear has a countdown trial waiting, otherwise Let's Go. Either way it finishes the wizard and drops you on the Setups tab. It does not buy anything and does not start a trial.

What you end up with, and running it again

You get your profile, cars, the race classes taken from those cars, the templates you switched on, your tracks and a My Notes sheet. No setup sheet is created, so make your first one from the Setups tab. The wizard runs once, and closing it with the X counts as finishing it, but nothing is lost: the same lists live in the menu under Cars, Tracks, Templates, Best Practices and Profile.

Navigating the app

Where in the app: Anywhere in the app

Everything is reached from the three tabs along the bottom and the menu behind the icon in the top left.

The bottom bar

Each tab keeps its place, so switching away and back lands you where you were. Manage is the exception: tapping it while you are already on it closes whatever page is open and returns to the tile list. Maintenance greys out when your car filter holds two or more cars. Set the filter to one car, or to all cars, and it comes back.

The side menu

Tap the menu icon top left, or swipe in from the left edge. From the top:

• The RaceNight logo, and either the RaceYear image or a sponsor logo sent with your account.
• Home, which goes to the Setups tab.
• Community Setups [RaceNight Pro], setups shared by other racers. Needs a signal.
• More Tools, then Manage, which slides in a second level:
  • Templates [RaceNight Pro], Baselines [Core / Included], My Shared Setups [RaceNight Pro], Best Practices [Core / Included], Cars [Core / Included], Tracks [Core / Included], Tags [Core / Included]
  • Gear Inventory, greyed out because it is not built yet
• Account, then:
  • Subscriptions [Core / Included]
  • Tutorial, which opens the RaceYear tutorial page in your browser
  • Help, which slides in Help Center and Contact Support, both opening the RaceYear help page
• Your photo and name, which opens Profile, where the theme switch and sign-out live
• The version line at the very bottom, reading "Version {number}"

The back arrow at the top of a second level returns to the main list, and the menu always reopens on the main list.

The Manage tab

Tiles for Templates [RaceNight Pro], Baselines [Core / Included], Best Practices [Core / Included], Cars [Core / Included], Tracks [Core / Included], Tags [Core / Included], Profile [Core / Included] and Subscription [Core / Included]. Anything opened from here or from the menu opens inside this tab, so the bottom bar stays put. My Shared Setups is menu only.

Controls you see everywhere

• The menu icon, top left.
• The house icon on Manage pages, which returns you to the Setups tab.
• The Android back button, which closes an open Manage page and returns to the Manage list.
• A thin progress bar under the title bar that runs while the app is syncing, backing up or restoring. It does not say what it is doing.

Panels that appear on their own

• You're in Offline Mode, when a request cannot get through. I understand closes it.
• No internet connection, a short message when the signal drops, at most once an hour.
• New Update Available!, with Get Update Now, which opens the store, and Maybe Later, which holds it off until you restart the app.
• Data Updated, a short message with the time, after the app picks up new templates or other server data in the background.

Your free trial and plans

Where in the app: Side menu → Subscriptions, or Manage tab → Subscription

This screen shows the plans on offer, what you are on now, and the button to restore a purchase you already made.

The title reads Start Free or Go Pro while a trial is on offer, and Subscriptions otherwise.

How the trial works [Core / Included]

A free trial sits on your account as a plan of its own. If a free plan is on offer here, its card carries a Start a free trial button that starts it without going through the app store. The length is set by RaceYear, not fixed in the app, and you see it in three places:

• The last button in the setup wizard, as "Start my {N} day free trial".
• The strip across the top of the Setups tab.
• The coloured tag beside the plan under Your current Subscriptions, reading "Forever", "LAST DAY", "1 day left" or "{N} days left". The same tag reads "Expired" once a trial is past its end, and on other plans "PENDING", "CANCELLED / EXPIRED" or "ACTIVE".

The trial panel on the Setups tab

While every plan on your account is a free one, a coloured strip sits above your setup list:

The right side always says Buy a Subscription, and tapping anywhere on the strip opens this screen. It disappears as soon as you hold a paid plan, and also when your free plan is the never-ending kind that shows "Forever".

Buying a plan [RaceNight Pro]

1. Pick a tab. The tabs and plans come from RaceYear, so what you see depends on what is on offer.
2. Read the cards. Each shows the plan name, the price, whether it is "billed annually." or "billed monthly.", and the price for the other period.
3. When RaceYear has supplied a comparison, Compare appears at the top right and opens it. The X closes it.
4. Tap the buy button and finish in your phone's own purchase panel.
5. On success a panel reads "You're all set!". Tap Get Started.

If the store cannot be reached you get a Store issue panel with the reason, such as "This subscription is not available in your region or store." or "The App Store / Play Store is not currently available." Restore Purchases at the bottom re-links a subscription you already paid for. It asks first, noting "You will not be charged.", with Cancel and Restore.

What a subscription unlocks [RaceNight Pro]

Everything: your setups and the button that creates them, Templates, Cars, Tracks, Tags, Baselines, Best Practices, RacePrep Maintenance, and My Shared Setups.

When the trial ends

A panel headed Subscription Required covers the setup list, Templates, Baselines, Best Practices, Cars, Tracks, Tags and My Shared Setups, with one of:

• "Your trial has ended." and "Your data is safe, but you can't continue without buying a subscription."
• "Your subscription has been cancelled." and "Your data is safe, but you can't continue without an active subscription."
• "You don't have an active subscription yet." and "Start a free trial or pick a plan to unlock your setups and the rest of the app."

Nothing is deleted, and the menu and bottom bar keep working, so Profile and this page stay reachable. Buy a Subscription on the panel brings you here.

Setups

Your setup list

Where in the app: Setups tab

The Setups tab is the home screen of RaceNight and holds every setup you have built.

The top of the screen

• The menu button (☰) opens the side menu and the RaceNight logo sits in the middle. A thin progress line appears under the bar while the app is busy.
• The car carousel shows whenever exactly one car is selected. Swipe it to the next car and the list below re-filters straight away. Tap a car's name to edit it; cars that came with a shared setup have no pencil.
• There is no "all cars" tile and no "add car" tile. To see every car's setups at once, open the filter sheet and tap Clear all.

What each row shows

• Top left: the race date, for example "Sep 5, 2026". Archived setups read "ARCHIVED", and a setup with no date shows nothing.
• Top right: a five star rating, taken from your feature race rating in that setup's last session. It stays blank until you rate the setup.
• The setup name, a red heart if it is a favorite [Core / Included], then a chevron, with the track and car underneath.

Rows are listed newest race date first and are not grouped. Setups with no race date sit at the bottom.

Row actions and Favorites [Core / Included]

Swipe a row from right to left for three instant actions:

• Clone: Saves the setup as a new reusable baseline rather than copying it, preserving your base chassis geometry for future race nights.
• Favorite / Unfavorite: Toggles the red heart favorite badge [Core / Included]. Starred setups can be isolated instantly using the My favorite setups filter.
• Archive / Unarchive: Moves the setup to your archive out of your active view without deleting history. Archiving happens at once with no confirmation, so use My archived setups in the filter sheet to retrieve the setup.

Only one row can be open at a time; tapping a row whose buttons are showing closes them. Tap anywhere else on a row to open the setup sheet. There is no way to delete a setup from this tab.

The blue + button at the bottom right, tooltip "Create Setup", opens the Create setup form.

Empty, loading, offline and locked

• First run: "Tap the button to add your first setup", with a large arrow pointing at the + button. With filters on and nothing matching: "No items found".
• A spinner fills the screen on the first load only. After that the list refreshes itself whenever you open the tab or leave a setup, and there is no pull to refresh.
• Everything here works with no signal, because your setups live on the phone.
• On a free trial a band across the top reads, for example, "3 days left on your free trial." Tapping it opens the subscription page.
• If your subscription lapses, a "Subscription Required" card covers the list and the + button disappears. The menu and bottom bar still work, and your data returns as soon as you subscribe.

Search and filter your setups

Where in the app: Setups tab → search box, or the filter icon inside it

The search box and the filter sheet narrow the list down to the setups you want to see.

Search

Type in the box hinted "Search for a setup". The list filters as you type and matches the setup name and the track name only, not car names or tags. There is no clear button, so delete the text by hand, and the text stays put when you leave the tab and come back.

The filter sheet: Favorites, Tags, and Ratings [Core / Included]

Tap the filter icon in the search box, or Update Filters in the filters row, to open Apply Filters.

Clear all resets every filter and re-selects all your cars. Show results applies everything and closes the sheet.

Filter chips and the car carousel

With any filter on, a row headed "Filters" appears above the list with a chip per filter and an Update Filters button. Tap the × on a chip to drop it. The favorites chip is a heart with no text, and the rating chip shows only filled stars, so a three star minimum reads ★★★.

With one car selected the carousel shows and swiping it changes the filter. Select two or more and the carousel is replaced by a chip per car name, and the Maintenance tab is greyed out.

Create a setup

Where in the app: Setups tab → +, or a baseline → New Setup with this Baseline

The Create setup form collects the essential parameters RaceNight needs to build your active race sheet.

Ways in

• Tap the blue + button on the Setups tab.
• Swipe a baseline row on My Baselines and tap Create Setup.
• Open any baseline in the Full Setup Sheet and choose New Setup with this Baseline.
• Select a shared setup from Community Setups [Core / Included]. This locks the baseline, labels it Starting baseline (shared setup) with a padlock, and offers cars matching that race class.

The screen is headed "Create setup" with the subtitle "Start building a setup by adding basic info."

Fill in the form: Baselines and Active Tags [Core / Included]

1. Name your setup \*: Free text name for your race night (e.g. "Spring Nationals Night 1").
2. Select race track \*: Opens your track library with name, address, and track length in miles. Tap Manage to add a new track on the fly.
3. What's the date of the race? \*: Selects the event date, defaulting to today.
4. What car will you be racing? \*: Opens Select a car showing each vehicle's photo and assigned race class. The chosen race class determines which templates and baselines are available.
5. Select a starting baseline \*: Opens the Select a baseline sheet:
   • Community setups [Core / Included]: Browse setups shared by other racers in your race class.
   • Your baselines [Core / Included]: Saved baselines built from previous race nights. Tapping one previews it read-only.
   • Templates [Core / Included]: Official RaceYear class setup templates. Tapping a template opens a full-screen read-only preview.
6. Active Tags [Core / Included]: Tap Add Tag to open Select Tags. Toggle active tags on or off, then tap Done. To make a new tag immediately without leaving the form, tap Add Tag inside the tag sheet, enter the name, and press Save.

Build setup

Tapping Build setup instantiates the complete setup sheet from the chosen baseline or template, attaches your car, track, race date, and active tags, and initializes all four race sessions.

Inside a setup sheet

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup

This is your primary working cockpit at the track for recording chassis adjustments, tire data, shock settings, scale numbers, and driver feedback.

The app bar and header card

• Back arrow: Leaves the sheet immediately. All entered fields auto-save on blur; there is no manual save button.
• Zoom icon: Opens the read-only Full Setup Sheet (SetupFullView) [Core / Included].
• Header Card & Favorites [Core / Included]: Shows the race date in capitals, setup name, track, and car. Tapping the red heart icon toggles the favorite status on the spot.
• 3-Dot Menu: Contains Update available (when template revisions exist), Save as baseline [Core / Included], Share this setup (to Community Marketplace), Edit sheet details (rename setup, swap car, adjust date/track/tags), and Favorite / Unfavorite setup.

Session bar and category strip

• Session Bar: Switch between Baseline, Practice, Qualifier, and Feature (or Round 1, Round 2, Main) with a single tap.
• Category Strip: Horizontally scrollable row of circular icons representing each subsystem of your race car: General, Chassis, Shocks, Gears, Tires, Scale, Lap Times, Recap, etc. Tapping an icon instantly switches the visible category panels below.

The lightning button and AI Crew Chief

• Lightning Bolt Button: Quick actions menu offering Full Setup Sheet [Core / Included], Best Practices & Notes, Add Photo (when the current category has a photo container), and Update Info (if post-update field notices exist).
• Ask AI Crew Chief [RaceNight AI]: When enabled for your class template, opens the interactive AI Crew Chief chat pre-loaded with your current session setup, track conditions, and recap notes.

Template categories and sheet layout

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → category icon bar

Every setup sheet is organized into specialized categories matching the mechanical systems of your race car. Each category serves a dedicated tuning role during race night:

1. General [Core / Included]

The environmental and baseline conditions for the event:

• Environmental Tracking: Ambient air temperature, track surface temperature, humidity, wind direction/velocity, and sky conditions (sunny, overcast, night).
• Track Surface Conditions: Track surface moisture and grip level (tacky, heavy, dry-slick, abrasive, rubbered-in, black-tracked, hooked-up).
• Run Order & Session Notes: Running order position, hot lap sequence, and general baseline notes. Environmental numbers recorded here serve as the baseline reference for tire pressure build and air density tuning throughout the night.

2. Recap [Core / Included] · [RaceNight AI]

The post-session debrief where performance and driver feedback are logged:

• Finish and Save Laps [Core / Included]: Start position and finish position (P1 to P30, DNF) with automated Position Change calculation (+/- spots gained or lost).
• Laps Completed ("Laps This Run"): Total laps run in the session. Feeds the automated Fuel / Lap calculation in Post-Race and automatically increments component lifespan counters in RacePrep [Core / Included].
• Corner Balance Chips: Driver handling feedback segmented by corner phase: Entry, Center, and Exit (rated as Loose, Tight, or Neutral).
• Driver Feedback & Trackside Conditions: Subjective handling commentary, braking stability notes, forward bite notes, and changing track surface observations.
• Trackside Tuning Guidance [RaceNight AI]: One-tap AI session diagnosis analyzing driver complaints and proposing targeted chassis, shock, and tire adjustments for the next session.

3. Gears [Core / Included] · [RaceNight Pro]

Drivetrain, rear-end gearing, and final drive ratio management:

• Pinion & Spur Ratio Grid: Visual ratio chart where tapping any pinion and spur tooth combination calculates the final drive ratio.
• Quickchange Gear Inventory: Quickchange gear set picker connecting to your saved inventory library.
• RPM Gear Calculator [RaceNight Pro]: Automated calculation computing engine RPM at the end of the straightaway based on tire rollout, ring & pinion, quickchange ratio, and track length/trap speed.

4. Chassis [Core / Included]

Frame geometry, suspension pickup points, linkage angles, and weight placement:

• Front End Geometry: Caster, camber, toe-in/toe-out, tie-rod angles, spindle height, ackermann, and steering ratio.
• Rear Suspension Linkages: 4-bar rod lengths and mounting hole positions, birdcage indexing and timing, panhard bar / J-bar heights and angles (frame and pinion mounts), and roll center adjusters.
• Wheelbase & Tread Width: Left and right wheelbase measurements, front track width, and rear track width.
• Ballast Placement: Lead ballast weight amounts, rail positions, and weight distribution notes.

5. Lap Times [Core / Included]

Precision pace tracking across qualifying and heat sessions:

• Lap Time Logging: Record single best lap, qualifying lap 1, qualifying lap 2, and session average lap times.
• Pace Trends: Compare pace evolution between Practice, Qualifier, and Feature as track conditions change.
• Finish & Save Laps: Saving laps records run cycles to the vehicle's maintenance logs in RacePrep.

6. Shocks [Core / Included] · [RaceNight Pro]

4-corner damping control and dynamic suspension response:

• 4-Corner Damping (LF, RF, LR, RR): Individual panels for low-speed and high-speed compression and rebound clicker settings.
• Coilover Assembly: Primary spring rates, tender/helper spring rates, lock ring positions, and preload collar turns.
• Travel & Bump Stops: Bump stop gap measurements, shaft travel o-ring positions, and packer stack heights.
• Spring Smash Data [RaceNight Pro]: Dynamic loaded vs unloaded travel tables documenting spring deflection and load transfer under braking and cornering loads.

7. Tires [Core / Included] · [RaceNight Pro]

Tire compound management, air pressures, stagger, and thermal diagnostics:

• Compounds & Wheel Specs: Tire brand, compound codes (e.g. D30, D40, Soft, Medium), wheel width, and wheel offset per corner.
• Pressures & Stagger: Cold starting pressures, hot post-run pressures, pressure build (delta), and calculated front/rear tire roll-out stagger.
• 3-Zone Pyrometer Temperatures [RaceNight Pro]: Temperature logging across Inside (I), Middle (M), and Outside (O) of each tire, with automated averages and tire footprint diagnostics (identifying over-inflation, under-inflation, or improper camber).
• Grooving & Siping: Documentation of custom sipe patterns, cut depths, and needle counts.

8. Scale [Core / Included] · [RaceNight Pro]

Static weight distribution and 4-corner chassis balance:

• 4-Corner Scale Grid: Interactive 2x2 vehicle graphic for logging Left Front (LF), Right Front (RF), Left Rear (LR), and Right Rear (RR) wheel weights.
• Automated Weight Calculations [RaceNight Pro]:
  • Total Weight: Sum of all four corners.
  • Cross Weight (Wedge %): $\frac{RF + LR}{\text{Total Weight}} \times 100$, the primary metric for oval cornering balance.
  • Left Side %: $\frac{LF + LR}{\text{Total Weight}} \times 100$.
  • Rear %: $\frac{LR + RR}{\text{Total Weight}} \times 100$.
  • Bite: $LR - RR$ wheel weight differential in pounds.
• Ride Heights: 4-corner frame rail ride heights measured on the setup pads.

Sessions: Baseline to Feature

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → the chevron bar under the header card

RaceNight structures every race night into four sequential sessions so you can track how the car and the track evolve throughout the event.

The four sessions and session switching [Core / Included]

The session names reflect your class template (typically Baseline, Practice, Qualifier, and Feature, or Baseline, Round 1, Round 2, and Main).

• Tap any session in the chevron bar to switch instantly.
• Switching sessions closes the keyboard, auto-saves whatever you were editing into the session you are leaving, and loads the target session.
• Session-specific categories update dynamically: categories configured for specific race phases (such as Recap, which is only relevant after on-track runs) appear automatically in Practice, Qualifier, and Feature.

Value carry-forward and session deltas [Core / Included]

• Forward Propagation: Values entered in early sessions carry forward into later sessions automatically. If you set spring rates in Baseline or air pressures in Practice, they remain in Qualifier and Feature until you explicitly change them.
• No Backward Pollution: Changes made in later sessions never alter earlier sessions. Your baseline remains preserved.
• Delta Shading:
  • Highlighted Shading: Values modified specifically in the active session show vivid highlight shading.
  • Subtle / Neutral Shading: Values carried forward unchanged from an earlier session show neutral shading.
• Session Isolation: Comments, scratchpad notes, and recap evaluation ratings reset fresh in each session.
• Photos: Photos captured in an earlier session remain visible across all subsequent sessions.

Filling in fields

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → any section

Every field in a setup sheet works the same way, and there is nothing to press to save.

The field row, and when it saves

The label sits on the left or above the control, with a smaller grey description under it when the template has one. Grey text inside a control is a placeholder, not a saved value, and shading shows whether the value was changed in this session or carried in from an earlier one.

Typed fields are written when the field loses focus: tap another field, scroll the page, close the keyboard, change session or open the full sheet. Pickers, chips, checkboxes and ratings save the moment you choose. There is no Save button anywhere in a setup.

The common field types

• Text is a single line box. Notes is a taller box that grows as you type; its keyboard has no Done key, so tap outside the box to finish.
• Numbers open a number keypad. The template decides whether the field takes whole numbers, decimals or a percentage, and can set a minimum and a maximum. A value it will not accept is not saved and a red line appears under it, such as "Please enter a valid number" or "At most 10.0".
• Fractions open a picker headed "Select" plus the field name, with whole numbers on the left wheel and fractions on the right, in halves, quarters, eighths or sixteenths. Cancel discards, Select applies.
• Big spinner fields are for large numbers: two wheels headed Hundreds and Ones, or one headed Value when the range is small.
• Checkboxes read Yes or No, and tapping toggles and saves.
• Pick lists open a list of options with a radio button each; tapping one saves and closes. Lists that learn from you also have a pencil and a bin beside your own values, an Add new button, and a Clear button that restores the default.
• Chips you pick several of show a Select pill when empty. Tap chips on and off, then press Select (3) or Done. Clear All only empties the chips in the sheet, so you still have to press the button to save. Bold full-width headings are group titles and cannot be picked.
• Chips that are always visible put every option on the row, and tapping one saves at once.
• Ratings are five stars. Tap a star or drag across them, and tap the left edge of the first star for no stars.
• Shortcuts are a second view of a field elsewhere in the sheet, so editing one here changes both. Separators are headings and rules with nothing to fill in, and templates can add buttons that open another section or a web page.

To add to a list that learns, tap Add new or the plus chip to open Add to your list, fill in New list value and, if you want, Optional description, then Save. To change or remove one of your own values, use the pencil and bin, or press and hold its chip. Options that came from the template cannot be changed.

Tables, grids and inventory fields

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → Scale, Shocks or Tires

Some fields hold more than one number, and each has its own way of being edited.

The corner grid

Ride heights and corner weights are entered on a picture of the car with a box at each corner. Fill them in any order; the keyboard's next key moves left front, right front, left rear, right rear. The whole grid is saved when it loses focus, not as you move between boxes, so tap outside it when you have finished. On a fraction grid you tap a box and the fraction picker opens, which saves as soon as you press Select. Boxes may be left blank.

Per-corner sections

Sections such as Coilover Assembly, Spring Smash Data, Wheels & Tires and Tire Temps hold four panels named LF, RF, LR and RR. Tap a panel name to switch corners; each corner keeps its own values. In the Full Setup Sheet the same section becomes one table with a column per corner, which is the quickest way to compare all four.

Gear ratio chart

If your template includes a spur and pinion chart, the field shows a Select pill and the sheet draws a grid of ratios with the current pair in the middle. Tap a cell to centre it, or drag to scroll the teeth. Cancel changes nothing; OK writes the centred spur and pinion into the two gear fields.

Inventory fields

An inventory field points at one row of a shared list, such as a tyre set or a gear set. With nothing chosen you see only the Select pill; once a row is chosen the field shows it as a small table with the column headings above the values.

• Tap the field or the pill to open the picker. The Select button stays greyed out until you pick a row, and an empty list reads "No items available".
• Lists you may add to also show + Add Row, with one box per column and a Save button. Blank rows are allowed.
• Rows you added carry a ⋮ menu with Edit and Delete, and deleting asks "Are you sure you want to delete this row?" first. Rows that came from RaceYear cannot be changed.

Learn chips and comments

Learn chips mix the template's options with values you have added. Tap a chip to choose it, or the round plus for the full list. To change or delete one of your own values, press and hold its chip and use Edit or Delete.

A comments field is a question followed by a bubble for each answer. Tap the question or Add comment, type, and press send; sending closes the sheet, so add comments one at a time. Press and hold a bubble to open Edit comment, with Cancel, a red Delete and OK. Comments do not carry forward, so each session starts empty.

Calculated fields and pit tools

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → Tires, Scale or Gears

Some fields work the numbers out for you and cannot be typed into.

How to spot one

A calculated field has a blue sigma (∑) marker on the left and the result beside it in the same blue. There is no box to tap and no keyboard. Press and hold the sigma for three lines of detail: the formula, the same formula with your numbers filled in, and the raw result.

What feeds them

Calculated fields read other fields in the same setup and update while you type, so changing a tyre circumference changes the stagger below it.

• If any field the calculation needs is empty, the result stays blank rather than showing a wrong number.
• Impossible sums, such as dividing by zero, show "N/A", and one "N/A" makes everything built on it read "N/A" too.
• One calculation can feed another, and RaceNight works them out in the right order. Some fields show two results side by side, with headings such as Front and Rear.

The calculators inside a template

Which tools you get depends on the class template. The Universal NE Dirt Modified template, for example, has RPM Gear Calculator in Gears, Weight Distribution in Scale beside Ride Height and Corner Weight, Stagger in Tires, and Tire Temps per corner with Average Temperature underneath. Because they belong to the template they differ between classes and can change when you take an update.

Race recap

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → Recap

Recap is the essential debrief category where you record on-track performance, driver handling feedback, and race results session-by-session, building the actionable intelligence needed to win.

What Recap holds

Section names adapt to the active session selected in the chevron bar. In Feature (or Main), standard templates include:

• Rate Feature Set Up [Core / Included]: 0 to 5-star evaluation of the car's overall balance during the session.
• Position & Finish Laps [Core / Included]: Start position, finish position, positions gained/lost, and Laps This Run.
• Corner Balance Chips [Core / Included]: Quick handling tags rating car attitude through Entry, Center, and Exit (Loose, Tight, or Neutral).
• Feature Race Conditions [Core / Included]: Track moisture, cushion height, dust/rubber condition, and ambient temp changes.
• Post Race - Feature [Core / Included]: Fuel remaining, fluid checks, component inspection notes, and automated Fuel / Lap.
• Driver Feedback [Core / Included]: Direct qualitative commentary on throttle response, turn-in responsiveness, drive off, and brake bias.
• Trackside Tuning Guidance [RaceNight AI]: One-tap AI session diagnosis delivering targeted setup adjustments for the next run.
• Recap Photos [Core / Included]: Dedicated photo log for tire wear patterns, track conditions, or damage.

On Practice and Qualifier, sections adjust dynamically to Rate Practice Set Up, Practice Race Conditions, etc.

Finish and save laps: Positions, Fuel, and RacePrep [Core / Included]

The Position section captures your race results and drives key calculations:

• Start and Finish Position: Dropdowns covering P1 through P30. The finish picker includes DNF.
• Position Change: Automatically calculates spots gained or lost (e.g., started P8, finished P3 = +5). Shows N/A if marked DNF.
• Laps This Run: Enter the number of laps completed in the session.
• Fuel / Lap Calculation: In Post Race, enter Fuel Start and Fuel End. RaceNight automatically divides total fuel consumed by Laps This Run to compute your precise Fuel / Lap consumption rate for fuel stop strategy.
• RacePrep Component Lifespan Integration: Every lap saved in a setup's Recap panel immediately logs run cycles to your active car's components in RacePrep [Core / Included]. Engine hours, shock service intervals, tire heat cycles, and suspension wear counters advance automatically, triggering maintenance alerts when service thresholds near.

Rate the session and driver balance [Core / Included]

1. Tap the active session in the chevron bar (Practice, Qualifier, or Feature).
2. Scroll to the rating row: tap or drag across the stars (0 to 5 whole stars). To clear a rating, tap the far left edge of the first star.
3. Select your Corner Balance Chips:
   • Corner Entry: Loose (oversteer on entry), Tight (push on entry), or Neutral.
   • Corner Center: Loose (rotating too fast mid-turn), Tight (washing up the track), or Neutral.
   • Corner Exit: Loose (breaking loose on throttle), Tight (refusing to turn off), or Neutral.
4. Add specific handling notes in Driver Feedback.

Trackside Tuning Guidance [RaceNight AI]

When track grip changes rapidly, tap Analyze this session to engage the AI Crew Chief:

• Real-Time Diagnosis: Transmits your driver feedback, corner balance chips, tire temps, air pressures, and track conditions to RaceNight AI.
• Actionable Adjustments: Returns specific mechanical recommendations (e.g., "Add 1/4\" right rear stagger, soften LR rebound by 2 clicks, drop cross weight by 0.8% to cure corner exit push").
• One-Tap Apply: If the recommendation contains setup values, tap OK to write them directly into your current session sheet. Tap Cancel to dismiss without making changes.
• Offline Safeguard: Requires an active internet connection. In offline mode, the app alerts you with "You're in Offline Mode"; all manual Recap logging continues to work offline without interruption.

Recap photos [Core / Included]

1. Select Recap, tap the lightning bolt button at the bottom right, and pick Add Photo.
2. Select Camera to snap tire graining or track conditions, or Gallery to choose an existing picture.
3. Type an Image Title (e.g. "RR Tire Wear Post-Feature") and tap Add.
4. Photos attach to the current session and remain visible in all later sessions. Tap any photo to inspect full screen.

When Recap will not open

Class templates omit Recap on the Baseline session, displaying "Recap fields are only used for Practice, Qualifier, and Main sessions." Recap is designed exclusively for on-track session evaluations.

What the recap is used for later

• Setup List Stars & Filters: Drives the 5-star rating on the setup card and power-filters your winning setups.
• Full Setup Sheet: All recap numbers and driver notes appear in the Full Setup Sheet (SetupFullView) for cross-session debriefs.
• AI Crew Chief Context: Everything logged in Recap forms the context for future Ask AI Crew Chief recommendations.
• RacePrep Tracking: Powers automatic lap counts and service tracking across your parts inventory.

Photos on a setup

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → lightning button → Add Photo

Most templates include photo sections so you can keep pictures of the car with the numbers.

Where photos live

Photo sections come with the template, with names such as Setup Sheet Photo, Chassis Photos and Scale Photos. You cannot create one. An empty photo section reads "Use the blue (+) Icon and select 'Add a Photo' to access your gallery or take a photo."

Adding a photo

1. Move to the category that holds the photo section you want. Add Photo only appears when that category has one.
2. Tap the lightning button, then Add Photo.
3. Choose Camera or Gallery in the "Add Photo" dialog, or Cancel, then take or pick the picture.
4. Type a caption in the Image Title box and press Add. Cancel throws the picture away, and an empty title is saved as "Untitled".

The photo goes into the first photo section in that category, stamped with the session you are on, and the section opens so you can see it. Photos live on your phone, so adding and viewing them works with no signal.

Viewing and removing

Photos are listed newest first, cropped square, with the caption underneath and a count on the section header. Tap one to open it full screen; pinch to zoom, and a single tap anywhere closes the viewer. When the setup can be edited the viewer also has a pencil (Edit image), which changes the title but not the locked URL box, and a bin (Delete image), which asks "Are you sure you want to delete ...?" first.

Some templates include diagrams as fields. Tap one to see it full screen and tap again to close. These cannot be renamed or deleted, and once loaded they stay available offline.

The full setup sheet

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → the zoom icon in the app bar

The Full Setup Sheet (SetupFullView) [Core / Included] provides an all-in-one scrolling view of your entire race car setup, optimized for rapid pit-lane assessment, tire prep, and chassis inspection.

What it shows and pit-side reading [Core / Included]

Open it with the zoom icon in the setup's app bar, or tap the lightning button and select Full Setup Sheet.

• Unified Single-Page Overview: Displays all categories (Chassis, Shocks, Tires, Scale, Gears, etc.) in capital headings with all active sections and panels arranged in one continuous scrolling sheet.
• Side-by-Side 4-Corner Tables: Sections with multi-corner data (such as Coilover Assembly, Shock Clickers, Spring Smash Tables, and Tire Temperatures) automatically convert into clean 4-column tables (LF, RF, LR, RR) so you can compare corners at a glance.
• Delta Value Highlighting: Numbers entered or adjusted in the session you are viewing are styled with distinct highlight shading; values carried over unchanged from earlier sessions appear in clean neutral text.
• Read-Only Safety: Protects your data at the track. Nothing on this sheet can be accidentally typed into or altered while passing the phone around in the pits.
• Smart Filtering: Empty fields and empty sections are omitted to keep the sheet compact and focused on what you actually run. Photo sections are kept in the detail view to preserve scrolling speed.

Sessions, Baselines, and Preview Mode [Core / Included]

• Interactive Session Chevrons: A session bar runs across the top of normal race setups. Tap Baseline, Practice, Qualifier, or Feature to immediately redraw the entire car's numbers for that run.
• Baseline and Community Setup Previews: When opening a baseline from My Baselines or browsing shared setups in Community Setups, the sheet loads in read-only preview mode under a dedicated header banner.
• One-Tap Setup Creation:
  • For your own baselines: The 3-dot menu offers New Setup with this Baseline, Edit name, and Clone baseline.
  • For community/marketplace setups: A prominent Use this baseline button along the bottom instantly creates a new setup sheet locked to that baseline and race class.

Show, hide and rename fields

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → the sprocket on a section header

Configure Setup Fields lets you switch off the fields you never use so your sheet only shows what you run.

Using the screen

1. Find the section you want to tidy. The sprocket appears on sections with fields, not on photo sections.
2. Tap the sprocket. The screen opens on the panel you were looking at, and sections with several panels show tabs across the top, for example LF, RF, LR and RR, each with its own list.
3. Slide the switch beside a field to show or hide it.
4. Press back. The section rebuilds straight away.

There is no Save and no Cancel; each switch is saved the moment you tap it.

What hiding does

• The field disappears from the sheet and from the full setup sheet.
• Nothing is deleted. Values you already entered stay and come back if you switch the field on again.
• The setting belongs to the class template, so hiding a field hides it in every setup you build from that template.

Some switches are greyed out because the template does not allow those fields to be hidden, and separators are not listed. A panel with nothing to configure reads "No configurable fields in this panel". Fields cannot be renamed, reordered or added, and there is no reset to template defaults.

Editing the sheet's own details

The 3-dot menu item Edit sheet details opens a screen with Name your setup, saved when you leave the box and refused with "Name cannot be empty" if you clear it; Race track and Race date, each with a picker; Car/chassis, which can only be swapped for another car in the same race class and otherwise shows a padlock; Template and Baseline, both locked; and tags. Everything there saves itself as you change it.

Baselines: Saving, Previewing, and Using

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → 3-dot menu → Save as baseline

A baseline is a perfected starting configuration: the chassis geometry, spring package, gear ratio, and weight balance you want to build from next time you race.

Saving a baseline [Core / Included]

1. Open any setup whose starting balance was dialed in.
2. Tap the 3-dot menu in the upper right and select Save as baseline.
3. In the Create New Baseline dialog, enter a descriptive Baseline name (e.g. "Eldora Heavy Spring Baseline") and tap Save.
4. RaceNight creates the baseline and lands directly on My Baselines with the full sheet opened in read-only preview mode.

Previewing baselines [Core / Included]

Open the side menu (☰) and tap Baselines to reach My Baselines:

• Tap any baseline card to launch the Full Setup Sheet (SetupFullView) in read-only preview mode.
• Inspect all four corners, shock settings, gear ratios, and chassis measurements without modifying any data.
• Search your baseline library by track, car, or setup name using the search bar.

Using baselines to build new setups [Core / Included]

There are three ways to build a new race night from a baseline:

1. From the Baseline Viewer: Open any baseline and tap New Setup with this Baseline in its 3-dot menu.
2. From My Baselines: Swipe any baseline row from right to left and tap the blue Create Setup button.
3. During Setup Creation: On the Create setup screen, tap Select a starting baseline and choose from Your baselines or Community setups.

The new setup sheet is instantly seeded with all baseline geometry, spring rates, gear ratios, and track associations, ready for session-by-session race night tuning.

Managing and cloning baselines [Core / Included]

• Clone Baseline: In the baseline full view 3-dot menu, select Clone baseline. Enter a new name (defaults to "{Name} copy") to duplicate a baseline before experimenting with major chassis geometry revisions.
• Edit Name: Rename any baseline via its 3-dot menu → Edit name.
• Delete Baseline: Swipe a row left in My Baselines and tap the red trash can button to delete. Baselines already used by past setups can be safely deleted without altering those setups.

Template updates

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup

RaceYear improves the class templates over time, and RaceNight offers to bring your setup up to the new version.

When you are asked

Opening a setup from the Setups tab compares it with the template already stored on your phone, so no internet is needed.

• A small change with nothing to review is applied on its own. You see "Updating setup..." at the top for a moment and nothing else.
• A larger change that does not affect your values shows the dialog straight away.
• A change that affects values you have already entered does not interrupt you. The 3-dot menu grows an Update available item so you can deal with it when it suits. Baselines are the exception and show the dialog immediately.

The dialogs

The first dialog is headed "Update your setup sheet!", or "Optional Update Available" when there is something to review. It shows the version line, for example "Version 1.8 → 1.9"; either "You can update safely without losing any data." in green or "Contains Setup Field Changes to Review." in red; the "What's new:" changelog; and the buttons I'll do it later and Update Version.

Update Version on a template with field changes opens a second dialog, "Setup Field Changes". It begins "No data was lost, but the following values will no longer show in your Setup Sheet or Baseline:" and lists every affected value one by one, grouped by session, category and section, for example "Practice > Chassis > Front End" with "Camber was 3.5" underneath. Cancel stops the update; Confirm Changes applies it, and a message reads "Update Complete" when it is done.

What happens to your values

• Your setup keeps its name, car, track, date, rating, favourite mark and all four sessions, and every value whose field still exists is carried over session by session.
• Session names are refreshed from the template, so they can change. Pictures from the old template are replaced, and photos you added are kept unless the update removed the section they were in.
• Values that no longer have a home are kept as notes. A red warning triangle appears on the sections concerned, and a note whose section has gone appears under Update Info on the lightning button. Tap either to page through them.

If you decline

I'll do it later changes nothing. Your setup stays on its version and keeps working, and you are asked again next time you open it from the Setups tab. If the setup was built from one of your baselines, updating it updates that baseline first.

RaceNight AI

Ask the AI crew chief

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → Ask AI Crew Chief, left of the lightning bolt button

A chat with an AI crew chief that already knows what is on the setup sheet in front of you.

Opening it

• The Ask AI Crew Chief button shows only when your setup's class template carries a crew chief prompt. Most class templates do.
• It works on a template preview as well as on your own setups, and it also opens on its own when you send from an AI chat field.
• It does not close the lightning bolt menu, so that menu is still open when you close the sheet.

The sheet

• A sparkle icon, the heading AI Crew Chief, and an ✕ that closes the sheet.
• An empty sheet shows an illustration and two lines: "What it's doing, what to change" and "What that change will do, what each part does".
• A typing box reading "Ask AI Crew Chief..." for your first question and "Follow-up question..." after that. It takes as much text as you like.
• The typing box is already focused when the sheet opens, so the keyboard comes up with it.
• The return key inside this box makes a new line rather than sending, so use the send arrow.

Asking

1. Type your question in plain language and tap the send arrow. The box and arrow grey out while it works.
2. A "Thinking..." panel covers the screen for up to two minutes and cannot be cancelled.
3. The answer appears under your question. Keep typing in the same box for follow-ups.

Tapping send with nothing typed still sends a request, carrying your sheet but no question.

Rating an answer

Under each answer sit a thumbs up, a thumbs down and the line "Review results. AI can make mistakes." Thumbs up sends at once. Thumbs down opens What could be improved?, a box hinted "Tell us what could be improved..." and a Send feedback button. Its ✕ closes the panel without sending, and an empty box sends nothing. Every answer keeps its own thumbs, but the rating is sent against the whole conversation rather than the one answer.

• The thumbs and the "Review results. AI can make mistakes." line only appear once the server has given the conversation an id. When it does not, there is nothing to rate.
• Feedback that fails to send says nothing in this sheet. The same failure on an AI button's answer puts up "Failed to send feedback: " and the reason.

What RaceNight sends with your question

• From that button it also sends every session's field values and every inventory table your sheet uses.
• "Every session's field values" means what each session recorded plus that session's calculated answers, not the whole sheet as that session reads it. A value you entered on an earlier session and carried forward goes out under the session you typed it on.
• From an AI chat field it sends what that field was built to send: the current session, every session, your inventory tables, or none of those.
• Fields the template keeps out of AI context are left out unless the AI field forces them back in. Calculated fields go out with their answers, an inventory selector as the row you picked with its column headings attached, so the AI reads the row rather than a row number.
• An inventory selector whose table or row cannot be found is dropped from what is sent rather than sent as a bare row number, so the AI may not see that field at all.
• Photos go only when the field asks for one.
• On a template preview a TEMPLATE PREVIEW banner sits where the session bar normally is, so there is no session bar to read the last row off.

Suggested values and closing

• Values arriving with an answer are written into the session you are on with no confirm step and no undo, and on the first session into the base values too. Pick that session before you open the chat, then check the fields it touched. On a template preview there is no session bar to pick from.
• Names that are not on your sheet, and read-only fields, are skipped without a message.
• The ✕ or a swipe down closes the sheet. Conversations are not saved, so press and hold to select and copy an answer first.

AI buttons and chat inside a sheet

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → any category holding an AI field

Two kinds of field put the AI inside your setup sheet: a button that runs one job, and a box you type a question into.

Where they are

Templates decide where these live. Universal NE Dirt Modified and Universal Sprint Car each carry six AI buttons and one AI chat field. Both work on a template preview as well as on your own setups. Neither appears in the Full Setup Sheet.

AI buttons

An AI button is a full width outlined pill carrying the label the template gave it, with a small icon to the left of that label when the template supplied one.

1. Tap it. Whatever field you were typing in is saved and the keyboard drops.
2. If that button wants a photo, Add Photo comes up first.
3. A "Thinking..." panel covers the screen for up to two minutes.
4. The answer opens in a dialog titled with the button's label, with the same rating and feedback panel as the chat.

• When the AI suggests values you get two buttons. OK writes them in; Cancel and the ✕ both throw them away.
• When it suggests nothing you get one OK that only closes the dialog.
• The thumbs here carry the tooltips Good response and Bad response, which the chat's thumbs do not.

OK writes into the session selected in the session bar, and on the first session into the base values too. On a pick list you are allowed to add your own entries to, a value that is not in the list yet is added, so it shows up straight away. Unknown names and read-only fields are skipped with nothing said, and there is no undo.

AI chat fields

An AI chat field is a rounded box with a send arrow tooltipped Send. The hint inside it is the question the template wants you to answer.

1. Type your question and tap the arrow, or press the send key on your keyboard. If the field wants a photo, Add Photo comes up first.
2. The box clears and the crew chief sheet opens with your question already sent, titled with the field's own label.
3. Carry on there. Follow-ups, ratings and closing work as above.

Tapping the arrow with nothing typed still sends a request. Answers in that sheet write their values in with no confirm step, unlike an AI button.

When one will not go

All three arrive as a brief note at the bottom of the screen rather than a dialog, so there is no OK to tap and they clear on their own.

Sending a photo to the AI

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → an AI button or AI chat field that asks for a picture

Some AI fields want a photo before they run, so the AI can look at the thing you are asking about.

How it works

1. Tap the AI button or the chat field's send arrow. Add Photo opens before anything is sent.
2. Under the title you get the field's own description when the template supplied one, then "Choose image source:".
3. Tap Camera or Gallery.
4. The picture goes with your request as soon as you pick it. There is no preview and no confirm step.
5. Cancel stops everything and sends nothing. On a chat field your typed question is still there.

The answer comes back like any other: text, and sometimes values for your sheet.

Limits

• One photo per conversation, and only on the first message. To send a second, close the sheet and tap the field again.
• The picture is shrunk to 1024 pixels on its longest side, so fill the frame with the part you are asking about.
• Only fields set up for photos ask for one. You cannot attach a picture to the Ask AI Crew Chief chat yourself, and there is no scan-a-sheet-to-fill-it feature.
• If the camera or gallery fails you get "Failed to pick image:" and the reason, and nothing is sent.

When the AI cannot answer

Where in the app: Anywhere you use AI inside a setup

AI needs a live connection, and this is what RaceNight shows when it cannot get one.

AI needs service

Every AI request goes to the server there and then; nothing is queued for later. The rest of the sheet works offline.

"You're in Offline Mode"

This dialog covers the screen when an AI request cannot get through.

• Under the heading: "No signal? No problem. There's still a lot you can do without service."
• "What you can still do without service:" lists Create and edit setups, Search setup history and Save changes.
• "What's paused until you go online:" lists AI capabilities, Manage cars and tracks and Template updates.
• I understand closes it, leaving the chat sheet open behind. Your question stays in the thread but the typing box is empty, so retype it to send again.

It also shows when the AI server has trouble or takes too long, so it does not always mean your phone is out of signal. With good bars, wait a minute and send again. Losing signal puts a note headed "No internet connection" at the bottom of the screen, but only at the moment the connection drops and at most once an hour.

"AI request failed"

The request got through and was turned down. The line under the heading is usually the server's own explanation, so read it as written, then tap OK. A few come from the app. A server that answers with an error code does not land here, it comes back as the "You're in Offline Mode" dialog.

Waiting, plans and limits

• Waiting for the answer gets two minutes, while making the connection and sending your request get thirty seconds each. When any of them runs out you get the offline dialog.
• RaceNight puts no counter, credit or plan tier on AI itself, and nothing tells you how many questions you have left.
• AI only lives inside a setup, and the Setups list is covered by the Subscription Required card when you have no active subscription. Without one you cannot open a setup, so you cannot reach the AI. Buy a Subscription there opens the plans page.
• Any limit on AI use is applied at the server and reaches you as the wording inside the AI request failed dialog.

Cars, tracks, tags and templates

Cars

Where in the app: Manage tab → Cars

Every setup sheet belongs to a car, and the car's race class decides which templates and baselines you can start from.

The cars list

The page is titled My Cars. Rows are sorted by name A to Z and show the car photo, the race class, the car name, then a pencil and a trash can.

• There is no "no cars yet" message. A fresh account shows the intro line and Add a new car, nothing else.
• A spinner covers the page while it loads. Swipe down to reload.
• If RaceYear withdraws a race class, its name turns red and a warning triangle appears beside it. Long-press the triangle for the tooltip "This race class is no longer available. Edit the car to pick another."
• The race class list comes from RaceYear over the network, so adding a car needs a signal: with no connection the picker is empty and shows "No race classes found". Editing and deleting cars you already have still work.
• With no active subscription the body is greyed out behind a Subscription Required card and a Buy a Subscription button. The top bar and menu still work.

Add a car

1. Tap Add a new car. The sheet is headed Add a car.
2. Fill in Name your car\*. Blank gives "Please enter a car name".
3. Tap Select race class\* to open the Select Race Class picker.
   • Type in the Search box to narrow the list. A count line reads "3 results", and nothing matching shows "No race classes found".
   • Each row shows the class category, name and a short description. Tap one to pick it.
   • Classes RaceYear has withdrawn are not listed at all, which is why a car flagged with the red warning cannot simply be saved again with the same class.
   • Request a Race Class opens the RaceYear website in your browser.
4. Chassis manufacturer is optional free text.
5. Additional context is optional and holds several lines. Its hint explains this text is used for AI, so put the year and chassis details here.
6. Add car photo (optional) opens Add Photo with the buttons Camera, Gallery and Cancel. The picture is shrunk before saving and previewed in the sheet.
7. Save stores the car. Cancel and the × discard it.

Save is refused with no race class ("Please select a race class"), or when the chosen class has been withdrawn ("This race class is no longer available. Please select another.").

After you save a new car here, a full template sync runs and then Manage Templates opens for that car's race class so you can switch sheets on, so this step needs a signal too. If RaceYear has no sheets for that class the modal reads "No templates available" and "There are no templates for this race class yet." Tap Done to close it.

Edit a car, and pick the active one

Tap the pencil. The sheet is identical but headed Edit car. Save writes the change.

There is no active-car switch here. On the Setups tab, when one car is selected a carousel sits above the list; swipe it to move between cars. The filter sheet has a Car section with one chip per car; tap a chip to add that car to the filter and tap it again to drop it. That section has no All chip, and cars you have deleted are not listed.

Delete a car

Tap the trash can. Delete Car asks "Are you sure you want to delete "Blue 21"?" and warns the action cannot be undone. Cancel backs out; Delete removes the car from the list, the carousel and the filters. Setups built with that car are not deleted and still show its name.

Tracks

Where in the app: Manage tab → Tracks

Your tracks list feeds the required track field on every setup sheet.

The tracks list

The page is titled My Tracks. Rows are sorted by name A to Z and show the track name, the address when there is one, a size line such as "Size: 1/4 mile", then a pencil and a trash can.

• With nothing saved you see "No tracks added yet." and "Search above to find your tracks."
• A spinner covers the list area while it loads; the search row stays put. Swipe down to reload.
• With no active subscription the body is covered by the Subscription Required card.
• There is no favourites feature. Tracks cannot be starred or pinned.

Find a track

1. Tap the search pill reading "Search for your racetracks..."
2. Type the track name. The app pauses half a second after you stop typing, then searches Google Maps.
   • Empty box: "Enter a search term to find racetracks".
   • Nothing found: "No results found".
   • A server or API failure shows "Search Error" and "Failed to search for racetracks."; with no connection at all you get the "You're in Offline Mode" notice instead.
3. Results are Google Places rows showing the track name, the address and a +. Tap one. The track is saved straight away, the search box is cleared and the search sheet closes, then the Add Track sheet opens so you can set the size. If it is already saved you get "Already Added" instead.

The crosshair button beside the search pill just searches for the word "nearby"; it does not use your phone's location.

Add or edit a track by hand

In the search sheet, tap Add Track Manually. The pencil on a list row opens the same sheet, headed Edit Track.

• Track Name\* is required. Blank gives "Please enter a track name".
• Track Address is optional. It is locked on a track you have just picked from a search result; re-open the row later to change it.
• Track Size opens a wheel with seventeen sizes: 1/10, 1/8, 1/7, 3/16, 1/5, 1/4, 1/3, 3/8, 4/10, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 2.66. It starts on 1/4. Done writes your choice in, and the Miles label beside the box is the unit.
• Save stores the track. Cancel and the × close without saving.

Delete a track

Tapping the trash can deletes the track on the spot. There is no confirmation and no undo. A short "Track Removed" message appears at the bottom.

How a track joins a setup

On Create setup, Select race track\* is required; leaving it empty gives "Please select a track". The picker lists every saved track and has a Manage button that opens the same tools with a Done button. Picking a baseline afterwards replaces the track with the baseline's own whenever that baseline has one, so choose the track last.

Tags and active tag filtering [Core / Included]

Where in the app: Manage tab → Tags

Tags are flexible classification labels you attach to setups so you can filter your race library by driver, race series, chassis manufacturer, track banking, or track conditions.

The tags page

The page is titled Manage Tags. Every tag is an interactive chip sorted alphabetically A to Z with an × icon. The last chip in the row is Add Tag. Tags are stored locally on your device, fully functional offline.

Create an active tag [Core / Included]

1. Tap Add Tag to open the Add Tag sheet.
2. Type your tag name into Tag Name\* (e.g. "Lucas Oil Series", "Dry Slick", "Night Race", "Driver: Smith").
3. Tap Save to create it. If the name already exists, the app notifies you with "Tag Exists".

In-flow tag creation [Core / Included]

You don't need to visit Manage Tags to create a tag:

• While building a setup on Create setup, tap Add Tag to open Select Tags.
• Scroll to the end and tap the Add Tag chip.
• Enter the name and tap Save. The newly created tag is automatically saved to your master tag library and applied to the current setup.

Renaming a tag

To rename a tag while keeping your setup associations:

1. Create the new tag with the corrected name.
2. Open each setup carrying the old tag, tap the 3-dot menu → Edit sheet details, and select the new tag.
3. Once updated, delete the old tag from Manage Tags.

Delete a tag with usage protection

1. Tap the × on any tag chip in Manage Tags.
2. If the tag is attached to any active setups, a warning alert informs you: "This tag is used in {N} setups. Deleting it removes it everywhere."
3. Tap Cancel to abort, or tap the red Delete button to confirm removal across all setups.

Where tags are used [Core / Included]

• Create Setup: Attach one or multiple tags to categorize the new sheet before building.
• Edit Sheet Details: Add or remove tags anytime from the setup sheet's 3-dot menu.
• Setup List Filtering: The Apply Filters sheet provides an active Tags section with an All chip plus individual chips for every tag in your account. Selecting multiple tags displays all setups matching any of the chosen tags.
• Active Tag Chips: Active tag filters appear in the top filter row of your setup list with quick-dismiss (×) chips.

Class templates

Where in the app: Manage tab → Templates

A class template is the setup sheet RaceYear builds for a race class, and this page controls which ones are offered when you create a setup.

The Manage Templates screen

A template supplies the whole sheet: the categories, tabs, panels, every field, and the four session names. Its name, description, picture and badge all come from RaceYear.

The title is Manage Templates, with a refresh icon (tooltip Sync Data) and a house icon (tooltip Home) beside it. The line under it reads "Preview Template by tapping on the name. Flip the toggle to download and activate the setup sheet to your RaceNight app."

• Templates sit in expandable sections, one per race class, all open to start with. Each header shows the class name and a count such as "4 templates".
• Each row has a picture, the name, the description and a switch.
• You only see templates matching the race classes of your cars. With no cars you get "No templates for your race classes" and "Add cars with different race classes to see more templates, or skip this step". Add a car first.
• If nothing has been downloaded you get "No templates available" and "Please check your internet connection and try again".
• With no active subscription the body sits behind the Subscription Required card.

Turning a template on

Flip the switch, and that template appears in the Templates section of the Select a baseline sheet when you build a setup. Your choice is remembered through future updates.

Previewing a template, and the PRO badge

Tap the picture or the name. A temporary copy of the sheet opens under a TEMPLATE PREVIEW banner so you can walk through every category and field. It is not locked, so anything you type into it goes away with the copy when you press back.

Templates published as previews only have a switch that is off and cannot be moved. Tapping the row or the switch shows Sneak Peak with "This is a preview only template and cannot be added to your account." Tap OK and the preview opens anyway.

The small PRO pill on a template picture marks the tier that template is published under on the RaceYear server. Nothing in the app stops you toggling or previewing one.

Versions and updates

Every template carries a version number, which is not shown on this page. It matters when a template you have already built from is updated:

• Picking a baseline that is behind its template offers the update, headed Update your setup sheet!, with a line reading "Version 1.7 → 1.8" and a What's new list. I'll do it later leaves the baseline alone; Update Version applies it.
• If the update would stop one of your entered values showing (a field you have filled in is removed, its type changes, or its options no longer contain your value) the heading becomes Optional Update Available, and a second screen, Setup Field Changes, lists those values. Cancel abandons it; Confirm Changes applies it.
• Any sheet's own version shows as a greyed-out Version 2.2 line at the bottom of its 3-dot menu, baselines included.

The refresh button and pulling the list down both run a full sync. A failure shows "Data could not be synced. Please check your internet connection and try again." The page always renders from what is on the phone, so it works offline.

Seven more templates whose names begin with RC are also published, plus GFRP Assault Sprint. All of them carry the PRO badge. A sync downloads every one of them; which ones you actually see listed depends on the race classes of your cars.

RaceYear also publishes two templates that are not race classes: AI Assist and notes. The notes one is the sheet behind the Best Practices page, which is why that page needs a sync before it has anything to show.

Asking for a class that is missing

Request a Template at the bottom of this page opens the RaceYear website. For a class rather than a sheet, use Request a Race Class at the bottom of the race class picker (Manage → Cars → edit a car → Select race class\*). Both open outside the app, so you need a signal.

Best Practices

Where in the app: Manage tab → Best Practices

One permanent notes sheet for your own tips and reference notes, reachable while you are filling in a setup at the track.

What the screen shows

The page is titled Best Practices & Notes and opens with "Add your race notes, tips, and best practices. Use this setup to organize your knowledge and become a better racer. You can quickly access these while you are filling out a setup sheet".

Under that is a set of expandable tabs. The tabs and every field in them come from a notes template RaceYear publishes and the app downloads during a sync, so the layout is the same for everyone. Your copy is built the first time you open the page and kept from then on. Only the first section of the template is shown.

Using it

• Tap a tab to open it and type straight into the fields.
• Everything is saved as you type. There is no Save button and no Cancel.
• If the notes section contains a photo tab at all, a camera button (tooltip Add Image) sits at the bottom right, whichever tab you have open.
• The Home button returns to the setup list and clears the screens behind it, so there is no back step afterwards.
• From inside any setup sheet, tap the round button at the bottom right and choose Best Practices. The same notes open in a tall sheet headed Best Practices & Notes with a × to close, and it carries its own round camera button (tooltip Add Image) at the bottom right. A tip written at the track is on the Manage page when you get home.

Other states

• A spinner sits where the tabs will be while the notes are opened; the title and intro line stay visible.
• If the notes template has never been synced you get the message "Notes template not found. Please sync templates first." and a blank page. If a copy exists but has no content you get an orange "Notes template not available" warning with "Please sync templates to see best practices". Either way, go to Manage → Templates, tap the refresh button, then come back.
• Once the notes template has been downloaded the page works with no signal.
• With no active subscription the body is covered by the Subscription Required card and the Add Image button is hidden.

Community Setups

Browse community setups

Where in the app: Menu → Community Setups

Look through baselines other racers have published and use one as the starting point for a setup of your own.

Open Community Setups

1. Open the menu from the app bar.
2. Tap Community Setups.

The page opens under "Browse and discover baselines shared by the community" and shows only the listings for the race classes your cars belong to. A spinner covers the page while it first loads. Pull down to refresh. The home icon returns you to your home screen.

What each listing shows

• The race class, then badges in this order: NEW for recent, Expired for a private share that has run out, Official for verified
• Download and view counts, shown only when above zero
• The title in colour, or "Untitled", with a padlock when the setup was shared privately
• The publisher's photo, their initial, or a person icon; the description, up to two lines; the manufacturer in bold; and "by" plus the publisher's name

Search and filter

Type in the box marked Search or Enter Private Code. The search runs on the server. Tap the filter icon for Apply Filters:

• Sort by: Latest (newest first) or Popular (most downloads, newest breaking ties; the default)
• Official only: off by default; on, verified listings only
• Manufacturer and Race Class: tap chips to narrow the list, All clears that group
• Clear all drops every filter and resets the sort to Popular, without closing the sheet
• Show results closes the sheet. Filters apply as you tap them
• The x in the sheet's header closes it as well

A Filters row then shows one chip per filter. A sort choice gets no chip and does not bring the row up on its own, so Clear all can reset it without warning. Tap a chip's x to drop it, or Update Filters to reopen the sheet.

Preview a setup

1. Tap a row. A spinner covers the screen while the setup is fetched.
2. It opens read-only under a red SHARED SETUP PREVIEW banner.
3. Tap the back arrow to leave. Nothing is saved to your setups.

Expired listings are dimmed, and tapping one does nothing.

Start a setup from one

From the preview, tap the three-dot menu and choose New Setup with this Baseline. The baseline is locked in and the car list is limited to that race class.

Or, in the create form, tap Select a starting baseline\*, then the Community setups tile, then a listing, then Use this baseline. The app checks first behind a brief spinner. With nothing published for that car's class a Community setups dialog reads "No community setups are available for this race class yet." with an OK button. If the check fails the picker opens anyway.

The picker is the same list under a different name: it opens as Use a Community Setup under "Pick a community setup to use as your baseline", with no menu and no home icon, and a listing's preview carries a Use this baseline button along the bottom instead of the three-dot menu.

Either way the result is a normal setup in your setup list. To keep it as a baseline, use Save as baseline on it.

When something goes wrong

• "Add a car to see baselines for your race classes": no car with a race class yet.
• "No marketplace items found for your race classes": nothing is published for your classes, or your car's race class is no longer offered. Check the car in Manage → Cars.
• "The template for this baseline is not available on this device.": open the menu, tap Manage, then Templates, and tap the refresh icon (tooltip Sync Data) on the Manage Templates page, then try the listing again.
• "Could not load the marketplace. Please check your internet connection and try again.": the page behind looks empty rather than failed. Pull down to refresh with service.

Anywhere the app talks to the server, a failure on the server's side raises a second message of its own on top of the page's, so two can appear at once:

Share your setup

Where in the app: Setups tab → tap a setup → three-dot menu → Share this setup

Publish one of your setups so other racers in your class can browse it and use it as a baseline.

Before you start

• Only a normal setup can be shared. Share this setup does not appear on a baseline or a template preview.
• The setup needs a car, and that car needs a race class.
• You must be signed in.
• The app does not check for duplicates before publishing.

Fill in the sheet

1. Open the setup, tap the three-dot menu, then Share this setup. It opens under "Publish this setup to the community marketplace."
2. Title\* is required and starts out as the setup's own name.
3. Description is optional. Its hint reads "Describe what this setup is for, conditions, etc."
4. Manufacturer is optional. It fills in from your car a moment after the sheet opens, without overwriting text you typed.
5. Share privately is off by default.
6. Tap Share. The button becomes a spinner while it uploads.

Cancel, and the x in the corner, close without publishing. Both are switched off while the upload runs.

Sharing privately

Share privately creates an 8-character code of capital letters and digits under "Share this code:". Tap the copy icon, tooltip Copy key, to copy it. "Copied!" shows for two seconds. The helper line reads "Send the share code using Email or Text". The app does not send it for you.

The code is made once, the moment you switch Share privately on, and it is kept if you switch it off and back on again, so a code you have already copied stays the right one.

What gets published

Every field that has a value, plus the title, description and manufacturer you typed, and the setup's race class and template. Not published: photos, tags, the setup's own name, the car, the track, session names, and blank fields. A blank field falls back to the template default for whoever imports the listing.

Your name goes with it. The listing is published under your account, and every row in Community Setups shows the publisher's name and profile photo.

After you tap Share

Success closes the sheet and shows "Your setup has been shared to the marketplace." Failure keeps the sheet open with your text intact, and shows "Could not share this setup. Please check your connection and try again." A blank title shows "Please enter a title", which clears as you type. Sharing needs a live connection.

Three more messages stop the share and leave the sheet open:

My shared setups

Where in the app: Menu → Manage → My Shared Setups

See everything you have published, check where each listing stands, change its wording, or take it down.

Open the list

Open the menu, tap Manage, then My Shared Setups. The page opens under "Manage the setups you have shared with the community" and reloads every time. Pull down to refresh, or tap the home icon to leave. A spinner covers it while it first loads. With nothing published, the page says so and points you at Share this setup.

Read a row

Each row shows the race class, the title, and a status line with the parts separated by bullets.

The line ends with the download and view counts. A view is counted when somebody opens your listing in the preview, a download only when somebody finishes creating a setup from it.

Change the wording

1. Tap the pencil on the row. Edit shared setup opens under "Update how this setup appears in the community marketplace."
2. Edit Title\* (still required), Description or Manufacturer.
3. Tap Save. Cancel, and the x in the corner, close without saving. Both are switched off while the save runs.

Saving closes the sheet, reloads the list and confirms. A failure keeps the sheet open with "Could not update this shared setup. Please check your connection and try again."

Take a listing down

1. Tap the trash icon on the row.
2. Delete Shared Setup asks whether to remove that listing and warns "This action cannot be undone."
3. Tap Delete to remove it, or Cancel to keep it.

The row goes at once and a message confirms. A failure keeps the row and shows "Could not delete this shared setup. Please check your connection and try again."

If the page will not load

• "You must be signed in to manage your shared setups." Sign in, then tap Retry.
• "Could not load your shared setups. Please check your connection and try again." Tap Retry once you have service.
• Without an active subscription a Subscription Required card covers the page. Buy a Subscription opens the plans page. Only this page is gated that way: Community Setups stays open, so you can still browse and preview.

Account

My Profile

Where in the app: Manage tab → Profile, or side menu (☰) → your name at the bottom

Your profile screen holds your photo, name and phone number, the light or dark theme switch, and the buttons for changing your password, signing out and asking for your account to be deleted.

Your photo

Tap the round photo at the top, or tap Change profile photo, and pick a picture from your library. It uploads as soon as you pick it. The button carries a camera icon but only opens your library, so you cannot take a new picture from here. Until you set one the circle shows a grey person outline, and once a photo is set there is no way to take it away again, only to replace it with another.

Your details

Clear Full name and "Please enter your name" appears under it. While that error is showing, nothing on the profile saves, including your photo.

How changes are saved

There is no Save button and no back arrow. Full name and Phone number save when you tap away from the field, and a photo saves the moment you pick it, with no spinner and no confirmation either way. To leave, use your phone's back gesture or pick another tab. The screen is never locked, even when your subscription has lapsed.

Verify your email

Until your address is confirmed, a coloured bar above your photo reads "Verify email (check your inbox)" with a Send Again button. Tap Send Again and a green "Email Sent" message appears at the bottom; if it does not go through you get "Failed to send verification email. Please try again." instead. After you click the link in your inbox the bar does not clear on its own, so leave Profile and open it again.

Change your password

1. Tap Change Password.
2. A dialog headed "Just a heads-up!" warns that the same password is used for RaceNight and RacePrep. Tap Cancel to back out, or Continue.
3. A panel slides up, headed Change Password with the subtitle "Enter your new password". Type into New Password; the eye icon shows or hides it, and the X closes the panel without changing anything.
4. Tap Change Password. The panel closes and a green "Success" message reading "Password changed successfully" appears at the bottom.

You are not asked for your old password, and the new one must be at least 6 characters. Leave the field empty and it is rejected first with "Please enter a new password", before the length rule is ever reached; too short and it reads "Password must be at least 6 characters". On failure the panel stays open and an "Error" explains why.

Dark Mode and offline

The Dark Mode switch under App Theme re-colours the app straight away, and the choice is stored on the phone rather than on your account. The screen never warns you when it cannot reach the server, and an edit made with no signal is lost silently, so make profile changes when you have a signal.

Subscriptions and purchases

Where in the app: Manage tab → Subscription, or side menu (☰) → Subscriptions

This screen lists the plans you can buy, the subscriptions you already hold, and the Restore Purchases button. A house icon at the top right takes you straight to the Setups tab, which is the quickest way off the page.

Early Access

RaceNight may be running in Early Access. Nothing is locked, no trial countdown is shown, and both menu entries for this page are greyed out with a small "Early Access" label and do nothing when tapped. The page carries a banner: "RaceNight is free for everyone during early access — no subscription needed. Subscriptions will become available later; for now you can ignore this page." Everything under it is dimmed and inert. After signing in you may also land on a page headed "Welcome to Early Access!"; tap Start using RaceNight to carry on.

The plans on offer

Plan names and prices come from RaceYear's servers, so they are not listed here. Tab names usually come from the server too; when the server sends none, the app falls back to Free Trial, Annual (save 30%) and Monthly. The title reads Start Free or Go Pro when a trial is on offer, and Subscriptions otherwise. The rest of the page is fixed:

• Plans sit in tabs. Tap a tab name to switch; swiping sideways does not. An empty tab reads "No plans available."
• Compare beside the plan heading opens a feature comparison. Close it with the X or swipe it down. With nothing to compare, the button is not shown.
• A free plan card shows Start a free trial. A paid card shows a price, "billed annually." or "billed monthly.", and a buy button.
• A spinner shows while the page loads; pull down to refresh it.

What a subscription unlocks

There is one gate, not a set of tiers: an active subscription unlocks the whole app. Without one, a panel headed Subscription Required covers Setups, My Shared Setups, Templates, Tracks, Cars, Baselines, Best Practices and Tags, and the Create Setup button is hidden. It reads "You don't have an active subscription yet.", "Your trial has ended." or "Your subscription has been cancelled." The two ended cases add that your data is safe; the never-subscribed one instead says "Start a free trial or pick a plan to unlock your setups and the rest of the app." Its one button is Buy a Subscription. It cannot be dismissed, but the side menu and bottom tabs still work.

Start a free trial

Open the tab holding the free plan and tap Start a free trial. No store is involved and you are not charged. You land on the Setups tab; if it fails, a message headed "Trial" appears at the bottom.

While you are on a trial and hold nothing else, a coloured strip at the top of the Setups list, with Buy a Subscription on its right, reads "3 days left on your free trial.", "1 day left on your free trial.", "Last day of your free trial.", "Your trial has ENDED." or "Your trial was CANCELLED." Tap it to open this page. The last day still counts as active.

The strip is left out entirely during Early Access, and on a lifetime-free plan, which carries the Forever tag on this page in place of a countdown. A free-plan holder may therefore never see it.

Buy a plan

1. Tap the buy button on the plan you want.
2. Your App Store or Google Play sheet opens. Finish the purchase there.
3. A dialog headed "You're all set!" confirms it. Tap Get Started.

Tap the buy button once: every buy button on the page spins while a purchase runs, and a second tap starts a second purchase. Buying needs a signal and only works in the phone app. If the store cannot be reached, a Store issue dialog gives the reason; OK closes it and nothing is charged. The reason is most often "This subscription is not available in your region or store.", and sometimes "The App Store / Play Store is not currently available." or "Subscriptions can only be purchased from the mobile app."

Restore, review and cancel

Restore Purchases at the bottom re-links a subscription you already bought. Tap it, then Restore in the dialog that ends "You will not be charged.", or Cancel to back out. If a purchase is found you land back on the Setups tab with it applied; if nothing is found, nothing happens and no message appears.

When no trial is on offer the page also shows Your current Subscriptions: one row per plan, with the plan name and its price on the first line, then the plan type on the left (Monthly plan, Annual plan or Free Trial), the expiry in the middle written as "Renews" and the date, and a status tag on the right, one of ACTIVE, PENDING, CANCELLED / EXPIRED, Forever, Expired, LAST DAY, 1 day left or N days left. A Free Trial row shows no price and no renewal date, because the tag carries the countdown instead. With none held it reads "You have no active subscriptions." There is no cancel button and no shortcut to your store account, so cancel a paid plan in the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android.

When a trial is on offer this block is not shown at all. In its place the page carries the single line "Start a trial or jump right in with a subscription."

Maintenance and RacePrep [RaceNight Pro]

The Maintenance tab in RaceNight directly incorporates the maintenance tracking engine from RacePrep, giving racers a unified command center for both trackside setup sheets and shop prep.

How Maintenance Works in RaceNight

Maintenance in RaceNight is built around your active race cars. When you log laps and sessions on the Setups tab, that data feeds directly into the maintenance engine to monitor wear, schedule rebuilds, and manage inventory.

The maintenance engine comprises five core capabilities:

1. Part Usage Tracking [RaceNight Pro]: Track total laps, race sessions, and heat cycles accumulated on high-stress components (such as shocks, valve springs, rear-end gears, and belts). Set proactive lifespan limits to replace parts before fatigue failures happen at speed.
2. Maintenance To-Do List [Core / Included]: A dedicated task manager for between-race shop prep. Schedule and check off tasks organized by priority, system (Engine, Drivetrain, Suspension, Safety), and due date.
3. Weekly Inspection Checklist [Core / Included]: Systematic pre-race and post-race bolt-check routines. Ensures steering linkages, heim joints, birdcages, fluid levels, and safety gear are inspected and torqued before the car enters the trailer.
4. Shopping List [Core / Included]: Log replacement parts, tires, fuel, tear-offs, and consumable supplies needed before the next race weekend, complete with quantities and notes.
5. Parts & Supplies Library [RaceNight Pro]: A digital trailer inventory of spare equipment—including spare shock packages with dyno tags, gear sets, and spring rates—allowing you to reference available spares when tuning trackside.

Fleet Synchronization & Car Filter

Maintenance records synchronize seamlessly with your single RaceYear account across both RaceNight and RacePrep.

When viewing maintenance, the tab focuses on your active car. If two or more cars are selected simultaneously in your Setups filter, the Maintenance tab dims to prevent cross-car data mixing. To restore focus:

1. Tap the Setups tab.
2. Open the filter sheet and select a single car (or tap Clear all).
3. The Maintenance tab re-activates immediately.

Tap Go to RacePrep Maintenance to open your full shop inventory and component histories.

Sign out and delete your account

Where in the app: Manage tab → Profile → Sign Out and Delete Account

Signing out backs your data up to RaceYear's servers and then clears it off the phone, so it is worth understanding before you tap it.

Sign out

Open Profile, scroll to Sign Out, and tap the power icon beside "Log out of RaceNight". There is no "are you sure?" step, and only the icon is tappable.

• A box you cannot dismiss appears, headed "Syncing Data", while your whole RaceNight database is uploaded.
• Everything RaceNight keeps on the phone is then deleted and rebuilt empty, and you land on the sign-in screen.
• Sign back in and the data comes down again behind a box reading "Restoring Data", when the server holds a backup for your account.

Signing out does not clear your Dark Mode choice, so the next person to sign in on that phone starts in the theme you left. Sign out lives only on the Profile screen, not in the side menu.

Delete your account

Under Delete Account the line reads Request Account Deletion, with an icon on the right. Tapping it shows a short message at the bottom: "Coming Soon" and "Account deletion will be available soon". No page opens, no request is sent and nothing is deleted. To have your account deleted, use Contact Support from the side menu and ask there.

Help, tutorials and feedback

Everything RaceNight offers as help sits in the side menu. Every link below leaves RaceNight: most open in your phone's browser, and the last two open your app store.

The Help submenu

1. Tap ☰ at the top left of the Setups, Maintenance, Manage or Profile screen.
2. Under the Account heading, tap Help.
3. Tap Help Center or Contact Support, or use the back arrow to return to the main menu.

Both open the same page, www.raceyear.app/racenight/help. Use it for questions, problems, account deletion requests and anything else you want the team to see.

Every link that leaves the app

The update dialog is not something you open: it appears on its own when RaceNight notices a newer version in the store, headed "New Update Available!" over the line "It seems you're using an older app version." Get Update Now closes it and opens the store listing; Maybe Later closes it and leaves it alone until you next start the app.

Some setup templates also carry link buttons inside a setup, and those open in your browser too.

• PRO pill on the corner of a template picture: that template is on the Pro tier.
• Switch beside a template: on means the template appears in your list when you create a setup. Every template you can see is already on the phone; the switch only picks which ones you use.
• A switch that will not move, plus a dialog titled "Sneak Peak" reading "This is a preview only template and cannot be added to your account.": the template is preview only. You can look at it, but you cannot add it.

Empty lists

• "No items found" where the setup list should be: your filters match nothing. Open the filter and clear one.
• "No baselines found": you have no baselines in the list you are looking at.
• A cloud with a down arrow above "No templates available" and "Tap sync to download from server": the template list is empty. Tap the circular arrow to fetch them.

Locked and greyed out

• Padlock in a red-tinted circle over a dark screen, headed "Subscription Required": your trial or subscription has run out, or you have never had one. The card itself carries Buy a Subscription, and the menu and the bars still work, so you can also sign out.
• Maintenance greyed out in the bottom bar: two or more cars are picked in the filter. Go back to one car, or clear the car filter altogether, and it comes back.
• Gear Inventory greyed out under Menu → Manage: not built yet.
• Italic Early Access beside Subscriptions: the tile is switched off for your account and cannot be tapped.
• A greyed switch in Configure Setup Fields: that template does not allow that field to be hidden.

Offline and syncing

• A cloud with a line through it, in a bar at the bottom, titled "No internet connection": you just lost signal. It shows at most once an hour.
• The same cloud icon in a dialog titled "You're in Offline Mode": green ticks list what still works, pause icons list what is on hold. I understand is the only way to close it. It is not raised when the signal drops. It appears only when something you tapped tried to reach the server and could not, such as a track or car search, so you can be offline a long time and never see it.
• A bar reading "Data Updated" and "Synced at 1:24 am": a background sync brought down new templates or lookup tables. If nothing changed, there is no message.
• A thin progress line under the top bar: something is loading.
• Circular arrow on Manage Templates: syncs your data now.

Working offline and syncing

What RaceNight can do at a track with no bars on your phone, what has to wait for a signal, and how your data gets to and from the server.

What works with no signal

• Creating, opening and editing setups, and every value you type
• Searching and filtering the setup list
• Baselines, tags, best practices, and photos already on the phone
• The full setup sheet and calculated fields
• Template pictures you have already loaded once, and your light or dark theme
• Opening the app when you are already signed in. It waits five seconds for the server, then carries on offline.

What needs a signal

• Everything AI: the crew chief, AI fields and AI photos
• Searching for a track, and adding one from a search result. Adding a track by hand and editing the ones you already have both work with no signal.
• Managing cars and your race class list
• Downloading templates and lookup tables
• Community Setups
• Signing in, registering, subscriptions and purchases
• Backup and restore, and uploading a profile photo

When syncing runs

RaceNight syncs on its own, twenty five seconds after you open the app, every ten minutes while it is on the screen, and straight away whenever you bring it back to the front. The timer stops while the app is in the background. To sync by hand, open Menu → Manage → Templates and tap the circular arrow, or pull the template list down.

A sync sends up your queued usage events, refreshes your subscription status, downloads any template or lookup table that changed, and tidies up your race class list. It does not upload your setups or your database.

At the end of every sync the app also asks the app store whether there is a newer RaceNight. If there is, a dialog headed "New Update Available!" reads "Update to get the latest features and experience." and offers Get Update Now, which opens the store listing, and Maybe Later, which closes it. You see it at most once each time you open the app, and never when the store cannot be reached.

Where your data lives

• On the phone: your setups, every value you type, sessions, cars, tracks, tags, baselines, notes, and photo files.
• On the server: templates and their change history, lookup tables, the race class list, your account and subscription, and a compressed copy of your phone database plus your photos once a backup has been made.

Backup and restore

• The app backs up automatically when you sign out. You see "Syncing Data" and "Backing up your data to the cloud...", then it clears the phone and returns you to the sign in screen.
• If that backup fails you get "Backup Warning" reading "Failed to backup your data to the server. If you logout now, you may lose unsaved data. Continue?" with Cancel and Logout Anyway. Tap Cancel, get a signal, and sign out again. Logout Anyway still clears the phone.
• When you sign in fresh and the server holds a backup, "Restoring Data" and "Downloading your data from the cloud..." appear and your data comes back. There is no Cancel on this one.
• A restore replaces everything on the phone with the backup.
• Photos travel separately from the database, so a photo that failed to upload is simply missing after a restore.
• There is a hidden manual backup. Tapping the version line at the bottom of the menu three times inside two seconds opens a Development menu holding Make a Backup, Get Latest Backup, Get Demo Data and Rebuild Database. Make a Backup reports "Backup Complete" or "Backup Failed" with an error code. Leave the rest alone: Rebuild Database wipes what is on the phone and warns you that the action "cannot be undone".

Signing in on another phone

Restoring only happens on a fresh sign in. A phone that is already signed in never pulls down a newer backup made somewhere else, and two phones on the same account overwrite each other's backups with no merging. Sign out of one before you use the other.

Setups and values

Where is the Save button?

There isn't one. A value is written as soon as you move off the field, press the keyboard's done key, or switch sessions. See Entering values.

A setup I know I made is not in the list. Where is it?

The list is filtered to one car by default, and it goes back to one car every time you return to the Setups tab. Swipe the car carousel to the right car, or open the filter and clear it. See The setup list.

I typed a value in Practice and it also shows in Qualifier. Is that broken?

No. Values carry forward so you only record what changed. Comment fields and a few fields the template marks as no-carry start blank in every session. See Sessions.

Can I add, rename or delete a session?

No. Every setup has exactly four sessions, and their names come from the template. See Sessions.

Why is a field showing Σ and refusing to let me type?

It is calculated from other fields. Press and hold the Σ to see the formula and the values behind it. See Calculated fields.

A calculated field is blank, or says N/A. Why?

Blank means a field it needs is still empty. N/A means the sum could not be worked out, for example a divide by zero. See Calculated fields.

How do I get rid of a setup I do not want?

Swipe the row and choose Archive. It leaves the list straight away with no confirmation, and you get it back by turning on My archived setups in the filter and swiping Unarchive. The same swipe on a baseline offers Delete instead, and that one does ask first: a dialog headed "Delete Baseline" asks whether you are sure you want to delete it, names the baseline, and gives you Cancel or Delete. Templates and updates

How do I get the newest version of a template?

Open Menu → Manage → Templates and tap the circular arrow. Templates also come down on their own in the background. See Templates.

My session names changed after an update. Why?

A template update rewrites the four session names from the template. Your values stay put. See Template updates.

What is the red warning triangle on a section?

A template update moved or removed fields, so those old values no longer have a field to sit in. Tap the triangle to read which ones, then type them into the new fields. See Template updates.

Account and offline

Can I use RaceNight at a track with no signal?

Yes for everything to do with setups. AI, cars, tracks and template downloads wait until you are back online. See Working offline.

Do I need to back up before I go racing?

The app backs up when you sign out, and restores on the next fresh sign in whenever the server is holding a backup. There is no timed backup, so sign out when you finish with a phone. See Working offline.

Will my setups appear on my second phone?

Only on a fresh sign in, and only from the last backup. A phone already signed in never pulls down newer data, and two phones on one account overwrite each other. See Signing out.

My trial ended. Have I lost my setups?

No. The message says "Your data is safe, but you can't continue without buying a subscription." Buy a plan and everything is where you left it. See Plans and subscriptions.

Why is the Maintenance tab greyed out?

Two or more cars are picked in the setup list filter. Go back to a single car, or clear the car filter altogether, and it lights up again. See Maintenance.

The app is not following my phone's dark mode.

RaceNight follows your phone only on the very first launch. After that it uses the Dark Mode switch under App Theme on the Profile page, which you open by tapping your name at the bottom of the menu. See Your profile.

I made my phone's text bigger and nothing changed in RaceNight.

RaceNight draws its text at a fixed size and ignores the phone's font size setting. See Your profile.

Getting help from inside the app

1. Tap the menu icon at the top left of the setup list.
2. Tap Help.
3. Tap Help Center or Contact Support. Both open the same help page in your phone's browser, so pick either.

Both hand the link straight to your phone's browser without checking for a signal, so with no connection you get the browser's own "cannot load page" screen rather than a message from RaceNight.

What to send us

• Your app version. Open the menu and read the last line at the bottom, which looks like "Version v1.13.00". Read it, do not tap it repeatedly. Three taps inside two seconds opens a Development menu, and Rebuild Database in there wipes what is on the phone.
• Your phone. Make, model, and the version of iOS or Android.
• What you were doing. The screen, the setup or template name, and the steps that led to the problem.
• The exact wording on screen. Copy the title and the message, including any code in brackets such as "(E013)".
• When it happened, and whether you had a signal at the time.
• A screenshot if you can take one.
