Laps and Race History
Log the laps after a race night, see what the entry does to your cards, and read the team's Race History.
Laps and Race History
Log laps after a race
Where in the app: Dashboard, Update All Laps
Adding laps is how a race night gets into RacePrep. One entry raises the count on every dashboard card of the car you raced and writes a line into Race History.
Open the form
- Open the Dashboard tab and swipe the car carousel to the car you raced.
- Tap Update All Laps. The button carries that car's unit, so on other cars it reads Update All Hours, Update All Miles, Update All Races, Update All Runs or Update All Km.
- The Update Laps screen opens with the car photo and name at the top.
- Laps go to the car showing in the carousel, so switch cars first to log a different one.
- The Garage cannot take laps. While it is selected the button is replaced by the plain word "Dashboard".
- If the team's subscription has ended, the dashboard sits behind the Subscription Required panel and the button cannot be reached. Tap Buy Subscription first.
- Crew members see the same button and the same form as the team owner.
Fill in the form
Four inputs and a button, in this order.
- Add Laps heading, with the line "This increases the Laps count on each card in this car. This can't be undone."
- Amount. The large box on the right. It has no label; the small line under it is your unit ("Laps", "Hours" and so on). Up to 10 characters. Leave it empty, or type something that is not a number, and you see "Enter amount". Type whole numbers: the field also accepts a decimal point or a minus sign, and your device opens the normal text keyboard rather than a number pad.
- Race Date. Read only, and empty every time, so pick a date on every entry. Tap it to open the calendar. Any day from 1 January 2020 up to today can be picked, and future dates cannot. Tapping a day selects it and closes the calendar, and Cancel leaves the field as it was. Skip it and you see "Please Enter Date". Helper line: "Race Date is added to history".
- Race Track/Series. Free text, up to 512 characters, helper line "Race Track/Series is added to history". Skip it and you see "Please enter a track or series name". The small X at the end of the field is decoration only, so select the text and delete it yourself to change it.
- Reset Weekly Checklist. A checkbox, ticked by default. Untick it to leave the weekly checklist alone.
Save
- Tap Update Laps at the bottom.
- Wait. The form stays on screen with no spinner while the server works, so do not tap it twice.
- RacePrep sometimes asks you to confirm. A dialog titled "Are you sure?" appears with a message from the server. Yes, Continue saves the entry, No, Ignore this change saves nothing, and tapping outside counts as "No".
- You land back on the Dashboard. The cards reload with their new counts and colours, and the badges on the bottom bar refresh. There is no confirmation message.
If the save fails, the dashboard shows the reason where the cards normally are, for example "No Internet". Pull down to reload, then try again.
What the entry does to your cards
- Every card on that car counts up by the amount you entered. The bar under each card name turns orange once the count reaches the card's Notification Threshold, and red once it reaches the Maintenance Threshold. A card past its limit shows a full bar with the real count on the slider handle.
- The entry is stored with the date you picked plus the current time of day, and shows up in Race History and in the History list inside each card.
Race History
Where in the app: Side menu, Race History
Race History is the log of every lap entry made for your team, across all of its cars.
Open Race History
- Tap the hamburger icon to open the side menu.
- Tap Race History, the row with the clock-and-arrow icon.
- The screen replaces the one you came from, so leave through the bottom bar or the side menu. No bottom-bar tab is highlighted here, but all five still work.
- Race History stays open on a demo team, and unlike the Dashboard it is not covered by the Subscription Required panel, so you can still read the log after a subscription ends. Crew members and the team owner see the same list.
What an entry shows
Each row has three lines:
- The race date, formatted by the server.
- The item name followed by what changed, for example the laps added.
- The car name, then " at ", then the track or series you typed on the form.
The list covers every car on the current team. There is no per-car filter, search box, sort control or paging, and tapping a row does nothing: no detail screen, no swipe action, no long press. Every line arrives from the server already formatted, so an entry saved without a track can end with a dangling " at ".
Refresh and states
- Pull down to reload. The pull indicator disappears straight away and the list shows its own spinner. Pull down after adding laps if your newest entry is not there yet, and after switching teams.
- If the list cannot load, the reason replaces it, for example "No Internet".
- With nothing logged yet the screen reads "Race History will show Lap Count entries from the dashboard once they are entered."
Editing or removing an entry
You cannot edit or delete a history entry from the app. The list is read only, which is why the Update Laps form warns "This can't be undone."
To correct a count that went in wrong:
- Open the Dashboard and tap the card you want to fix.
- Change the number in the Total Laps box, or tap Reset to Zero and confirm in the "Maintenance complete?" dialog. It explains "Reset lap counter when you perform maintenance or replace the item. Resetting can't be undone."
- Save with the check icon in the title bar. A short "Updated" message confirms.
- This changes that card's running count, not the history line you already logged. What the server writes into history for a correction or a reset is decided on the server.
- Deleting a card is not a way to remove one bad entry. The delete dialog warns that it "will permanently delete this task and all data attached to it from RacePrep", and suggests you swipe the card and use Move to park it in the Garage, or Edit to keep the data and reset the laps to zero.
History for one card
- Tap a card on the Dashboard, then scroll to History. The same events are listed for that card alone, with the date and track on the left, and the change and running total on the right.
- A card with no history yet shows nothing under the header. There is no empty-state message here.
- A row whose total did not come through prints the word "null" where the number should be. The count on the card itself is still correct.
- Email this item, beside the History heading, mails a summary of that card. A "Task Summary" message reports what the server sent back.
Fixing problems
- "Please Enter Date" or "Please enter a track or series name". Both are required on the update screen. The date is never filled in for you.
- Future dates cannot be picked. The date picker stops at today and goes back to 1 January 2020.
- You answered "No, Ignore this change" and lost what you typed. The screen closes either way. Open Update All Laps again and enter it once more.
- Laps went onto the wrong car. Laps go on the car showing on the dashboard. Switch cars first, then tap Update All Laps.
- A history line is wrong. History cannot be edited. Open the card and correct its total instead.
- "Race History will show Lap Count entries from the dashboard once they are entered." Nothing has been logged for this team yet.
